Your ultimate game room theme....

If money was not an issue, what type of game room would you build and specially what theme would it be?

I know many of us have game roms rather than game environments. I enjoyed building my game room, adding the black light carpeting, painting the walls electric blue but deep down I really would like eventually to create something a bit more eccentric and themed rather than just a game room with cool carpeting, stuff hanging on the wall and games.

Some KLOVrs have created a full retro 80s environment...I think nutballchamp is a great example of that. There are many others but centering the game room around a theme is what I'm asking about...

No limits...let's hear what you'd come up with.

Build one that's hanging off a cliff.

Like skywalk?

if money wasnt an issue I would most likely have an insane game room with multiple areas separated by sound barriers

I would have A billiards table, snooker table, darts, a full sized poker table, several foldaway card/table game tables that could be stored when not in use, an automatic mahjong table

some mechanical slot machines spanning different eras, pachinko machines from different eras, and some Japanese pachislots

Then I would have a bar with ice-cold beer, tapper, and some table top vids in the area

I would have a built in booth eating area with burger time and food fight

Then I would have an area with late 70s through 80s dedicated cabs

Lastly I would have a Japanese themed area made like a Tokyo arcade with candy cabs setup for fighters/2d shooters/90s jamma games

If money were no object I would have the most insane arcade ever. Probably so over the top it would be hard to classify as just an arcade. To start simple I would build the dining/show area from a Chuck E Cheese with all the animitronics. I would also have a few of the CEC rides they had for kids like the Chuck E go round and the one where you sat in a seat and it lifted you up and around off the ground in a circle. only I would build them more adult sized so I could still ride them.

I would need separately themed rooms for the games. Definitely a space themed room. I think i would go with some type of fiberglass walls. My goal for this would to have a room that looked and felt like a capsule. Other than the door way you enter the room would be all white and there would be no actual corners. The corner areas would all be rounded as if you were in a big white tylenol gel cap. Of course there would be games in there too.

I would want a wild west room that was done up floor to ceiling. I might even have the floor actually covered in dirt for effect. Walls would be covered with aged or aged looking weathered wood and I would go so far as to design the roof to either open during good weather and have the illusion of the sky when closed or be glass so you could see out but not see any other part of the building only the sky above.

I'd have a racing themed room for all the driving games.

I would have a room that is basically a planetarium with the constellations on the ceiling constantly running a visual presentation.

I would build a section possibly a hall way that was basically a slice out of the 80's. possibly even including a 7/11 and a fast food place or something like an 80's pizza hut. I would also somehow work in a toy store or at least toy aisle as i remember the gi joe, transformer, he man aisles in Toys R Us BITD.

I would need a few rides too. Probably a train/tram that moved you from area to area. basically moving slow enough to just step on as it moves. Since it would be slow moving there would need to be an animitronic show along the way. Think like a Disneyland ride. Might even make this a boat ride. I've always like the slow moving mellow part of the pirates of the carribean and the one Disneyland ride where you go into monstros mouth and end up in storybook land or whatever. Of course this all needs to give the effect of night time as they lose something in the day time.

I would need a full sized roller coaster that would wrap around over and go through the building or buildings. In the sections it goes through the buildings you could only see it through windows and what not. Wouldn't want it to be unsafe.

There would be a section like a museum dedicated to the rare games and the history of the arcade industry.

I would need a dedicated pinball area which i think i would set up like a carnival complete with carnival games like the ring toss and the one where you break the plates to win a prize. probably throw in the knock the milk bottles off the milk can too. Need the one where you shoot the BB gun to shoot the star out of the paper and the water gun game where people shoot the water in the clown's mouth to make their horse or whatever race to the finish. Also need a full sized shooting gallery in there as well. And skee ball and air hockey.

Of course I would need employees to run the games and be there for effect.

I really want the areas to have specific feels to them weather you are there to play games or not. I want there to always be something to look at all around you. Most areas would be designed to be fun but some would be intentionally scary.

I think somewhere buried in all the madness I would build an area that was actually indoors but would look like you were outside. Basically a drastic transition from a dark area probably through a door to a lighted area. Upon entering this area you would see the a lawn and a house with a fence and a yard and trees and such. It would be like being outdoors on a perfect day. With a single house alone in the center of the area. The house would probably be furnished completely as if it were from the 50's with the one exception that it would have a simple low key carpeted arcade room. I actually think this room would be where i would personally hang out and play the most games. the other rooms would be more for entertaining others. Think the 50's house thing would give a surreal twilight zone effect. Oh and other than the games and the out door sound effects like the wind or an occasional bird the house should be completely silent.

My arcade would sort of be the Winchester Mystery house of arcades as I would basically continue with building until I died.

I'd do the same thing I'm doing now(Lost Highway theme), only a hell of a lot bigger.

I'd have 4 bowling lanes, 5 or 6 skeeball machines, pins from all eras(and vids + EM's), and a huge kitchen for catered food.

I want an all red billiard room with a giant stuffed camel and a bathtub shaped like a clam.

The original idea I had for my gameroom wasn't really expensive, I wanted it to look like game physics applied to the room.

There would be end tables on both the floor and ceiling, and I was going to saw a chair in half diagonally and mount it high up on adjacent walls to make it look like it was going out one side of the room and coming back in on the other, just like a ship or rock in Asteroids would.

The amount of space it wasted was what ultimately made me decide against it.

Multi level game room, with miniture roller rink and DJ booth, plus complete concession stand.

This is a really cool idea.

If money was no object, I would make a cyperpunk themed gameroom with post-apocalyptic buildings jutting out of the walls. Each game would have similar threats looming around it, like a ufo traveling on a track over the Space Invaders machine, glowing Fygar/Pooka eyes glowing from a cave behind the Dig Dug, a huge animatronic dinosaur behind the Jurassic Park (which I would have if I had the room...), etc... also, a surround sound system blaring hard rock and techno throughout. It would have an outdoor feeling with jungleish noises and explosions as well and a fake sun/planetarium switcher for day/night.

As I mentioned in another thread, I want to have a laundrocade. I want a seperate game room with all the good stuff in it, but the laundrocade would be a working laundry room but styled after a laundromat. I would have two coin op washers and two coin op dryers to lend more towards the theme. The floor would be tile and the walls would likely be white or off white and relatively pain with laundromat type signs and such. I also want a changer and some crummy JAMMA games with a beat up Ms. Pac to go along. An 80s Pepsi or Coke machine and candy machine would be great as well. There would be a couple of laundry folding tables, some ugly plastic chairs and vintage late 80s/early 90s magazines.

The other idea that I have is a missile silo type theme. I was thinking that as much original equipment as could be found would be cool. Having a launch console with switches that could turn on indicator lights and such would be great as well. A Missile Command cockpit would be the centerpiece of the whole thing. The games would have to be space games or shooters. Defender, Asteroids, Galaxian, Galaga, ect.
