I'm thinking about some game room ideas...and I've had the moniker "Mad Man Arcade" for some time now. (Cuz I must be crazy to be in this hobby)

Anyhow, I was poking around one of my favorite web sites and realized I could prob do a run-down psych ward type of theme. Here's the site: http://www.opacity.us

So...let's say I had minimal space...any ideas to make this happen? Here's what I have so far...

Rusted/antique fluorescent light fixtures with cages on ceiling
Wall Hangings like seen on the sight
Fake Nurses medication window
Tile floor
Institutional blue/green walls
Exit sign w/cage

Any other ideas? Let's say its one room, like 14x20. Games would be covering most if not all of the eye level wall space.

That sounds like an awsome idea. I'm doing somthing somewhat similar, I'm going with a fallout shelter theme, complete with old cold war collectables. I'm sure you could find some really cool old stuff to stock the mad-house theme!

That would be a cool and creepy theme. How about a Hannibal Lechter style face mask on the wall?

Maybe a little creepy, if you need some empty medicine bottles I have a lot. My mom takes a lot of stuff and for years has saved ass loads of them would love to get rid of some of them for her.

So will you be hosting Halloween parties then?

I've been collecting things for a fallout shelter themed game room for about a year. Haven't started assembling it yet but I have a lot of cool ideas.

The plan is to have a huge power box with a on/off lever which will turn on the games as well as the yellow beacon lights on the ceiling and a "meltdown" warning sound for about 10 seconds . Also some old style squawk boxes with newer speakers in them for the sound system, a bunch of signs and cold war stuff, gas masks, a red rotary dial phone... etc. I even got a cool 1950's geiger counter from a yard sale for $3. Original Eveready batteries were still in it and still had some charge left after over 50 years?!

It is a good theme to use if you have an unfinished basement. You just paint everything and leave concrete and pipes exposed. Cheap and it should look cool.

Ha, we've had the same ideas! I got some NOS Fallout Shelter signs, old newspapers, Soviet memoribilia and other things. We should exchange some ideas. Funny you said about the on switch with the sounds/lights, I've been planning the exact same thing!

Any windows? They need faux bars made from PVC.
One of those sliding things on the door when you open it and look through to
see whos on the other side.
A cool sign With the words "Man Man Arcade" behind some Bars (3D effect).
Faux paint the door to look like a big steel door with big rivets.. All applied to a wooden door and painted silver/grey and weather'd.

Oooh yeah thats an idea! I like the medicine bottle idea too, may play that into a nurses window.

I know someone else offered, but I think I have some old medicine bottles. My dad found them years ago while demolishing an old building. One of those things I can't throw away, but also don't really have a use for. I'll get some pics if you think you might want them.

If you run your games on tokens, you could get one of those large gallon size bottles of protein powder or something similar (since they look like a giant medicine bottle) and fill it with tokens for use in the games. Print out a custom label with "Rx For Fun" or "Madman's Rx"... you get the idea. Cool theme idea, btw.

A random sound blurb over your speakers with a guy screaming about his cigarettes... :)

Fake blood stains on the tile?

If the room is big enough, instead of couches you could have a bunch of fold out chairs in a circle.

An old B&W TV with crappy reception showing an old TV show.

Shots of Thorozine (use your preferred alcohol).

At least one reference somewhere to Arkham and or Bellevue.

The old TV is a great idea, you've just got to get one that's not to old to have Some type of inputs!

Even an old 13" B&W TV just playing static up on a shelf somewhere would be pretty cool. AS if the bomb has dropped and all television signals have been whipped out.

How is the progress on this going anyway? It's been a few months.
