I'm picking up a $125 Galaxian this weekend. The guy said it worked until he moved it and the it quit working. Obviously that's not much to go on, but for you dudes with mucho repair experience, does this scenario usually point to a common culprit? Thanks muchachos

Could be the monitor wasn't bolted down properly, and he cracked the neck...
Or it could be the harness/edge connector wiggled off the board.

It depends on what all quit working. If nothing powers up (marquee, game board, monitor, etc) then it is likely something in the main power circuit. Many times the safety interlock switch shifts during the move and stops the entire machine from powering up.

If the board is the only thing not powering up it could be a connector came loose.

There is also the possibility that moving the machine caused some loose change to short something on the power supply or all sorts of other scenarios. Do you trust the seller and believe his story?

I've had it be just loose wiring, a fuse that fell out, interlock, and the one that miffed me the most was when I picked up a Neo 6-slot that worked fine but once I got it home the monitor didn't work. I ended up replacing the chassis. Never could figure out why the old chassis failed in a two hour drive... It's USUALLY something VERY simple though.

I picked-up a game under similar circumstances. It turned out the game was switched off. I'm betting the former owner didn't even know there was a switch on top of the cab and didn't realized he switched it off during the move.

Funny... I won a 14 game lot advertised as 5 working 9 non-working... it actually ended up being 9 working 5 non-working. The guy just plugged each in, he didn't check for switches.

My guess is its a loose connector or wire . But it does depend on whats not working after moving the game .

i responded to a c.l. ad for a space invaders. i called and spoke to the owner (a woman) and told her i was interested. it was in 100% working condition about six months ago and she said they have not played it since. she wanted 100.00 for it. i told her id take it. i drove about an hour to get to her. when i arrived she said her husband answered a call for the game and the caller wanted to know if it worked or not. she said he plugged it in, flipped the switch, and saw a spark inside the coin door. (keep in mind this was AFTER i told her i wanted to buy it!) she said he went to the store and would be back soon. i looked inside the coin door with my flashlight and saw a coin lock laying across the monitor chassis (which is now burnt and not working at all). i told her i thought we had a deal for a working machine. she said that she was sorry he turned the game on. i just shook my head. she saw that i was upset about what had happened and she said i could just take it. it was tuff finding a good chassis for a few months. bottom line: dont ever switch a game on until you look everything over FIRST!

That's good advice. Sounds like I'm picking this up on Saturday. When the guy was moving it he was actually moving it into the garage. I love it when they're in the garage. Should be an easy pick up. I'm ready for an easy one after that nightmare Pengo pick up a couple weeks back.

Depends on the seller...I made a deal with a member on klov to buy a minty Outrun mini from someone that I never really communicated with or met in person ever...we picked a time for pickup and everything looked fine.....left for the long drive and halfway there my cell rang...it was the seller apologizing that the monitor no longer works from the move from the basement to the garage....he then cuts $150 dollars off the deal for the problem....So I continue forward getting there...load the game...then enjoy one of the best home arcades my eyes have ever seen. The seller is ZfCamaro and we are close arcade friends now....(one of those life is a box of chocolates sort of things)

Sounds like the "move kill switch" activated on it. Have you checked that yet?
