A friend of mine has been asking me about a couple games that are out of my era of collecting.

First is Time Traveler - are these hard to find? hard to keep running? expensive?

Second - Numan Athletics - a Jamma game I guess - is this a hard to find board? controls simplistic?

Can anyone chime in on these???

I believe time traveler is a laser disc game but not 100% sure. I do know that it is a holagram game kind of like how the did the pin ball revenge from mars or I am pretty sure it is. I only ever saw one in an arcade back in the 90's and it had an out of order sign on it. I remember because it was such a strange cabinet.

Time Traveller is nearly impossible to find. They were a LD game, as Braido said, but most were converted to Holloseum. Holloseum cabs are not very hard to find but the TT components needed to convert it back are.

Oh great - why is this always the case? Just once it would be great to hear - oh you need Food Fight parts? No problem - they're everywhere... and cheap

Time Traveler is a bitch to find and a sad thing when you do since as I remember it's a terrible game. Save your friend the headaches, tell him to focus on a better game, like Primal Rage.

I agree with everyone else but in my opinion it doesnt have much replay value. I know alot of people love Dragons Lair but i feel the same way about it and any other laser disc game. Once you beat it what else is there.

Yup, I'll chime in: your friend has lousy taste in games!

(Wait - these games are a bit obscure...........this "friend"...........it's you, isn't it?) :D

I've been keeping an eye out for a Numan Athletics board for a while. Yes, it's JAMMA. I can't really speak about replayability on it, as I haven't played one since I was little. But I remember it being pretty cool.

Numan Athletics is pretty much Track & Field ramped to the extreme. Smash buttons to run + an action button. Not sure if it's 2p only or not.

Well I broke the news to him on the Time Traveler... he said he remembered playing that back in the day but that the ones he was really interested in were the Numan Athletics and like a Street Fighter or Mortal Combat. I applaud the guy for wanting to get involved in the hobby - but its a BIG hobby - where do you start? I guess one machine at a time!
