Hey folks,

I finally bit the bullet and ordered the new MPU1 board from Jim @ Echo Lake Pinball and installed it. Once that was done it was time for troubleshooting.

8 new bulbs
new rubbers
fixed one stuck switch issue
Removed 1 nickle and 3 paper clips from the left coin chute
installed new teflon feet

Now it's all working... except that the chuck-a-luck won't spin.

Any ideas on where to start? I'm about to tear the SDU board out and check for cold solder on the headers, problems with the driver transistor, and issues with the relay used.

It *does* recognize all the value switches when spun by hand during the diagnostics tests.

Thanks,

RJ

motor?...........

Found it!

The motor was good - no burnt windings or intermittent solder joints... Good continuity to the SDU board.

The SDU board looked perfect. I swapped relays around just to check and the problem stayed put. The diode on the coil was good, solder was all good, transistor and diode were good... and the resistor feeding the signal from the MPU board was good as were the connector pins...

This led me back to the new MPU board. The 8255 connects straight to the pins leading to the SDU board. Urg. Wait... Checked the wiring harness and had connectivity between the connectors but not between the connector and the pin. DOH!

Reseated the connector a few times and it's working fine now. :)

One day I'll need to replace that connector.
