I wish I could have a huge arcade in my house, but I'll never be able to do that...at least in the short term. My goal is to have 5 arcade games that my family would all enjoy, so I've taken the safe route and gone with popular titles that we all love. Hell, even my wife has a blast playing them, especially when there's 80's music in the background. Grinkers also helps it too...thanks Steve. ;)

Anyway, so in the last year, I've managed to find and restore 4 of the top 5 games that our family loves:

1. Donkey Kong upright (Fully restored with a Donkey Kong Junior board on a VL switch. Remix kits are also installed on both boards).

2. Pac-Man cabaret (Restored...just needs wood vinyl sides and front. HSS Multi-Pac kit installed).

3. Centipede cabaret (Restored and has a Millipede board with the HSS Multipede kit).

4. Galaga cabaret (In transit to my residence, and it's appears to be restored for the most part. HSS kit will be added. I hope it makes it safely).

5. ??? What should the last game be that fits this style of collection? I'm thinking Frogger, Asteroids, or Space Invaders for various reasons...

If anyone has any opinions, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks,
Jason

Space invaders is fun with the multi kit. I personally love asteroids, but casual players hate it. Frogger is not a bad option, kids really like it. I would suggest Track and Field. Fits right in with the classics and is a great party game.

I think Frogger is the best choice of those. People always gravitate to mine and no one hardly ever plays Asteroids.

Whoa, I just thought of another one. A driving game. It would have to be Monaco GP, but I'm terrified of that game because it's TTL. I wonder what the likelihood of finding a Monaco GP would be like these days?

Thanks,
Jason

We have similar taste ! I pared down my arcade and went with
1. DK cabinet with Jr on switcher as you did
2. Pacman 25th anniversary for PAC/Ms PAC / Galaga
3. Team play Centipede/Millipede/Missile Command /Lets go bowling
4. Joust cabinet with JROK multi Williams
5. Qix with JROK multi Taito and Jamma switcher with JROK Mylsrar board

So I'd say Williams or Taito with JROK
Although I still want to add another cabinet with ArcadeSD board

Along the lines of a driving game, I would lean toward a'rush' one.. they used to go for cheap.... but, then again, that's me and times have changed.

I still might get one, we'll see.

One that the wife and kids will play?

Mappy, Qix, or Mr. Do.
These three are hits. Avoid the shooters. That's my experience. Only dad plays those.

If you want a driving game, I'd suggest Spy Hunter or Roadblasters. I have both and they both get decent play.

I would think about a driving game. I'm selling my Roadblasters, but I will definitely have another in my long term future collection. It's a lot of fun. I'm not too into the 'newer' games like Rush. The modern racing games aren't really racing games. Skill plays no part. They are just eye candy and fun for little kids. No matter how bad one of the players is, the computer will turbo them forward so they can still catch their friends. Stick with the classics.

For a driver consider pole position or hang on / super hang on . Very fun and addictive with quick game times and good for family competition / leader board .

Tempest has already been picked, so I choose Multi-Williams. A Joust or Robotron will also work.

Yeah, a Robotron cabaret would be another one. A Williams should be in the mix.

Damn it!

How about a Neo Geo? I decided to go with a 4 slot to give some flexibility in titles.

A Driving game is a good idea too. I wanted a Manaco GP(childhood fav) as well but never have come across one, but I did find a Outrun. Good times!

Yeah, Neo Geo never did anything for me. I liked a few of the games, but not enough to ever want one. Plus, the cabinets were so generic. That little Monaco GP...I'd snatch one up in a second if I could find one.

Ahhh…. I remember the days when I said "#5 was the last one".

That was about 75 machines ago.
