just wanted to know, in general how important is music for people and for those who find music as something important in their life, how important is game music; not just in games but in life, in general. I ask because in forums and boards people keep talking about how awesome the music for x game is, and you see in Youtube videos people talking about how they listen to the music from x game in their commute to work and so on. It seems as if for some people the genre is one of their favorites even

I get that the music may recall memories of gaming experiences, but for those of you who listen to game music out of games, do you listen to it because you like games and it makes you remember something nice, or you listen to it because of the music itself, and you would listen to it often if it was played in radio? would you listen to it if you have not known that song from a game? what other kinds of music do you listen to?

I ask because I like games and music, and music is a very important part of my life, but there are very few game tracks that I could even care about, and probably most of the time I don't even pay attention to the music while I am playing (and sometimes I prefer to mute game music and play music from my library), and in general game music does not appeal to me, or is not the kind of thing I would listen while I am doing something else; does anybody else feels that way?

I love game music and the feeling of nostalgia it gives. From the arcade, I really dig the Frogger theme and Metal Slugs music. I never liked hip-hop, but became a fan of a few songs after playing Def Jam on PS2. The only reason I picked up Def Jam was that it was made by AKI, the guys behind the N64 wrestling game. NBA Street had fantastic music as well. I also really liked the music from the first Tony Hawk game. There are some games where the music just fits beautifully, and other games where they just pop in some generic rock. Music is a huge part of gaming for me.

Best music for me without a question is the Final Fantasy 7 music Nobuo Uematsu. Has all of the above and aeriths theme was nominated as best classical on the radio

I'll say Rastan has my new favorite game music. I only recently discovered it, never played it as a kid and I love it. The music is infectious, I was walking around humming it for days. I just made it my phone ringtone...

WTB, Rastan BTW :)

I don't purposely listen to game music, when not playing the games.

However the Frogger, Bubble Bobble, and Moon Patrol background music are all tracks that will randomly get stuck in my head.

My ringtone is the Bubble Bobble theme... but the 20th Anniversary Box Set for OutRun is exceptionally good, even for driving.

My fave: CD08-01 track

One of my all-time favorite video game music remixes. I've capped a lot of chassis with this music looping the background. Really gets me in the zone. :)

SNES TOP GEAR REMIX:

I still enjoy the synthesized Reactor riffs. It sounds like a rock guitar, but it's all 0's and 1's, and they are simply AWESOME!

I would leave my game off free play just to hear it.

When I was younger, I would jam to game music all the time in MIDI form before it was easy to get MP3s of everything online. Now I mostly listen to electronic music, an obsession which is 100% born of my original love for video game music.
