Game buying remorse as a kid

YES. I'm sorry, but I loved that damn game.

anyone try beating battletoads when they were a kid? that flying level is impossible for about 99% of the human population

The level with the hover bike things?? I hated that!!! Nintendo Power had an issue that had a long fold out poster mapping out the entire length of that level. I remember using it and pausing the game over and over after every few walls lol Passed it and beat the game that day. Games a blast playing 2 player. My friend used to get so pissed when I'd wack him with the sticks.

My first game I ever bought myself with remorse was Milons secret castle. What a steaming pile!! I did it a few more times with The adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle,Festers Quest,Low G Man, and Time Lord to name a few. All were for NES.

Millions Secret Castle was great, I remember my friend cound never beat it, I rented it one time and did beat it, it was great. Very challenging game. Not too sure about Rocky and Bullwinkle but Festers Quest was also great, I remember getting that game for Xmas once. You did need a rapid fire control pad to play it though. Low G Man is good and I loved Time Lord, still do.

I hated Metal Gear, I couldnt get past the first lvl on that damn game. Jackal was probably my arch nemesis game, I could never beat it. Spy Hunter was impossible for me to beat the boat level as well. Never got to use any of the other vehicles.

I had Jackal!! Loved that game

I had the same problem with the Hover Bike part of Battletoads, NEVER made it past that level, was there a strategy to it? I tried it hundreds of times, Waiting a second longer, Holding directions after jumping, but I never made it across. Also, Megaman 3 and 4 were way to fucking hard.

The hover bike level was programmed into the game to not be random everytime you died and tried again. It's the same every single time so you can pass it by memorization which would take allot of dying and time. The easiest way to pass it fast was with the Nintendo Power magazine poster and constant pausing/unpausing.

This guy says he passed it through memorization and completes it in one try,Insane!!

I also have much love for Jackal! That game wasn't super easy, but it wasn't super hard either.

Only played Battletoads a few times.Didn't really get into it.Mega Man 3 and 4 aren't that bad,but they are harder than Mega Man 2.

Jackal was a fucking fantastic game.

How about King's Knight?

That was actually a pretty dissapointing game. Not half as cool as the box art.

I can agree with that. I had a love/hate relationship with KK...I hated the hell out of it, but I couldn't stop playing it. I know I never beat it as a kid - not sure how I'd do with it now.

I have come to the odd realization that I have become better at the newer games than I was at the console classics. I played some of my old Nes games a few weeks ago and I died more times than I ever did BITD. Could it be that the newer games are easier than the old? I have always thought so.

Ohhhhhhh !! Just remembered that I bought another horrible game that had released a year prior. I got it new at Kay bee for $14 and I should have known that it was horrible judging by price.........Golgo 13

Then came the horrible sequel which I unfortunately obtained through a trade. This time around Golgo is more badass. I don't know anyone that can kick someones ass while having their hands in their pockets lol. Graphics were much better this time around also.

I don't know but I seem to be even better at the older games now, i'm even beating some games now I couldn't beat as a kid. Mabey it's because my kid is watching now, I have to be the best video game player in the universe.

I swear it's true! It's so hard to find a really challenging game these days. I miss the good old days when it would take 50 tries just to get across a pit of lava. They just don't make 'em like they used to.
