From what I can tell on the cabinet I am restoring it looks like every surface on Galaxian is covered with white vinyl, the top, sides, back, front, bottom(!). Since I am stripping this thing down to bare wood I am wondering if I should just paint the solid white areas (top, back and bottom) or get white vinyl for those areas. Vinyl is expensive, a lot more than white rustoleum. ;)

No, the inside will be painted black. Thinking about taking her to work tomorrow to start the priming work. Been busy, picked up a Tron in PA yesterday.

Just an FYI, you won't find an exact match for the white vinyl. The original vinyl has some sort of wood grain/texture in the vinyl. I say just paint.....

Many years ago, back before replacement art was available, I did my best to restore an old Galaxian. I found an NOS control panel overlay and painted the cabinet in an "off white" color that reminded me of the original color around the factory art...

I would say it is more like a leather texture.

Yeah, even after I typed it I had to run upstairs and check. I get it confused with the funky faint wood grain texture on my Star Castle and Armor Attack. I new it wasn't a straight smooth vinyl though.....

whatever texture it was, it took awhile to get it all off! :)

There was no saving my artwork, it was painted over with black paint, plus the bottom needed rebuilding. Looking much better now.
