New to the community but learning a lot and trying to learn more.

I fell in love with a Galaxian cabinet at a barcade i frequented. High score on the board. I decided i wanted to get into arcade game collecting and purchased a Galaxian pcb on eBay. I knew that what i bought was "unmodified" other than a high score saver and that what i played was definitely hacked in some way (faster defending ship, increasingly faster enemies, increasingly more numerous enemies). I was able to get an employee to snap a couple pictures of the PCB and see that it has a daughter board where mine has empty sockets. I see a lot of references online about "daughter boards that were removed from Galaxians" but the original manual schematics show only sockets where the daughter boards often show up; like mine.

I'm trying to understand where the modifications would be installed on the barcade version (i assume the daughter board) and how i can obtain such mods for my PCB to install (i assume at the empty sockets).

Any information or pictures would be appreciated. I have built a table top control set for my board and have been playing it but want to get to the same gameplay as at the barcade.

(First picture is the barcade PCB and others are mine)

Thank you

You don't have/need the ROM daughterboard because your board is running modified code contained on the high-score save module.
Yea, so I've been learning that tonight. I removed the high score module and the game showed garbage and I've been playing with the dip switches and they all match except the Bonus GALAXIP.

I guess what confuses me most is that the schematic in the manual doesn't show a daughter board or any chips in the empty socket locations so what would someone purchasing an "original/unmodified" version expect to see?

Original Midway board has the ROM daughterboard that plugs into the two empty sockets you see on your board.
Even though the manual schematic doesn't show it? Also, so is this where the expanded ROMs would exist?

Correct. The daughterboard holds 5 ROMs that are the game code. You probably played a hacked version known as "Super Galaxians". Get a daughterboard and program that version if that's what you want to play.

There's a 4 in 1 kit that will get you Super Galaxians. Talked about in this thread:
[Edit: Not sure those are available anymore. That last one made was expanded to 16 in 1]

@keithsarcade posted a video of the 16 in 1:

Looks similar to the gameplay i want but definitely no "Super Galaxian" text displayed

I'll look into that. I've seen "Super Galaxian" before but definitely not a direct representation of what i played. I wish there was a more clear history of the development of the boards. Thanks for your input

4-1 is easily done. I have two I modified. Look up macros arcade galaxian 4-1.

I have two pre-modded I'd sell or 4 daughter boards I was trying to find a new home for that I think i still have also.
