Galaxian ROM replacement?

Are there images that I can replace the daughter board with 2 ROM chips?

I found the single ROM hack but why do all that soldering if I can just use 2 chips?

Contact madrits to see if he has any Galaxian High score save kits.
It will eliminate the flaky daughterboard.

This post is from 2010 but he may have them available.

Right now my board doesn't work. So I was trying to get it going the cheapest route first by burning some new roms. I have chips and a burner just not sure which to use or what roms to cat together if that is even possible.

I had been reading that the daughter was a replacement for original 2 roms yet I can't find good enough info on that.

I'll keep the kit in mind if I get this sucker working. Don't have a game its just a spare board but I do have a MS pac which I can supposedly just plug it into.

So is there a 2 ROM hack? that just puts 2764?'s(or other size) in there for the 2 empty sockets? no soldering?

No, that is a single rom hack with some soldering to other points. If you put a switch in there you can have 2 different games also.

Not that I know of, but honestly the single is pretty simple to do.

Anyone got the pinouts of those sockets? Can't get much from the schematic since its all just grouped together as a bus and the actual connection through the board I can see.

I may do the single hack seems like there should be a way to eliminate the board with bigger roms though and no hacking

ok I think I'm getting somewhere

looks like 3 2732's can be used

Have to install a socket in the missing place between the 2

still checking all the pinouts

Trying not to hack the board

Here's a link to a guy selling chips -- making it seem adding the extra socket is the way of the future

Anyway I have other problem now I was getting a yellow screen with lines solid, found a bad rom burned a new one. Cleaned some legs and now I get a screen of N's and some flicker and a few change when I switch to test -- so I think some progress

the 2 graphics roms are busted as well 1 pin on each, when removed them I just get a blank screen so I gotta swap the sockets the pins are stuck in them :< and then burn a couple new ones ans see whats up.

I tried new Z80 and a couple of 245's since they were socketed. the 245 or the cpu got the N's -- slow progress

fresh outta 24 pin sockets..... damn guess this will have to wait until I buy some more loot from Bob or whomever.

How is adding a couple wires which is easily removable any less hacking than adding a whole extra socket?

I still have my daughter board and if I wanted I could have it back in in under 5 minutes with the wires gone.

I wouldn't consider putting a socket on a board that already has a place for it a hack or much work. The original daughter board can still be installed as well and no soldering is needed to use it in either config once the socket is added.

It appears debatable to me whether the socket is an upgrade or a past design. Anyone have an real info? I don't see the socket in any manuals.

At any rate I got my daughter board working (1 Bad ROM).

I went form all N's to "BAD RAM 1" by socketing and installing new RAM for 3F and 3H (3H I believe was really the culprit)

I swapped 7P and 7N for the "BAD RAM 1" error and now the game plays.

Some colors and graphics are whacked but I do have a pin broken of each of the 2 graphic roms.

So whenever I get some 24 pin sockets I'll burn new roms and I expect I'll be fully in business.

I'll clean up the desoldered ram and test it to see if any can be saved for the next project. At least 1 in each pair is bad for sure if not all 4.

=================
Update

I used tweezers to get the broken pins out of the character roms sockets since I could find no replacements local

Fixed the broken pins on the roms checksumed them one was bad and one was good

test all 4 original RAM chips 3 were totally bad one was flakey but still played so I tossed all of them.

Game now works.

Fixes: Cleaned all chips that were socketed

replaced 4 ram chips and 2 ROMs

========================

Still curious on the extra socket? Any one ever have a factory board with 3 roms and not the daughter board?
