Hey everybody,

I just picked up my very first arcade cabinet the other day. It's galaxian. I spent $50 on it.

It plays fine aside from one thing. There's horizontal green lines across the screen.

And they become worse and worse as you play. The monitor itself is a color monitor but you only really see the color green. There is slight red in the upper left corner, and very feint blue horizontal lines throughout the monitor.

The monitor is 24"

I was also wondering where the best places to shop for parts are. I need a new lock and key. The one on the machine is taped up and I also don't have the key for it anyway.. (it's also missing one of the coin mechanisms inside)

Thanks in advance for all your help, I'm pretty new to arcade machines, not so much with electronics. I'm excited to get this completely running!

Oh, as for your problem, it appears to be a combo of both board and monitor problems. Of course the green appearance of the monitor may also be from a board fault, but it's hard to tell from that picture.

How would I go about troubleshooting the problem? I may be interested in a coin mech I'm going to have to do some research first.. How much were you looking to get for a used one?

If there's any other pictures I could take that would help just let me know. It's also got a random board sitting on the floor of the machine with a yellow wire connected to the power supply. It says "Pac man Filter" on it. I know you can convert these machines into pacman so I'm guessing that has something to do with that.

Sorry if I sound new to all of this and am asking dumb questions, this is all new to me.

The only dumb question is a question that goes unasked.

Anyway, that Pac man board is worthless. Not sure what the yellow wire is though. Its probably best to grab the pinout/schematics and find out if that wire belongs somewhere else.

For starters, eliminate the simple stuff. Start by unplugging the board and reseating all the socketed chips on the board. They tend to get loose/dirty up over time. See if that changes anything. Next, discharge the monitor and carefully reseat the video connector on the chassis and the neck board on the tube. Just be very careful and ask us anything before you do something you are unsure of.

Thanks a ton. I'll start with the unplugging and reseating everything soon. I have discharged the monitor earlier so I could safely reach to the coin slot since I didn't have a key for the lock.

I'm really excited to even have this in my apartment. It's in much better hands than the guy I bought it from that's for sure. He just had it sitting unused and uncared for in his garage.

I've been asking $5.00 for each mech.

Yes, that's a filter board and worthless. The yellow wire I'm guessing is an earth ground, but without seeing it I'm just guessing.

So I was going about taking chips out etc... and This little bugger broke some pins off in the socket

I copied everything that was on the chip and typed it out. If i boot the machine up with that chip in the lines are there from the very beginning then. I didn't want to keep it on too long just in case that would mess anything else up.

Peale I might be interested in a mech and possibly a lock as well

that's what mine looks like right now.

He means you can replace the chips that are at positions 1H, 1K and 2K on the board with 2716 ROMs.
