I have a Midway cocktail cabinet and was wondering what the value was of a Galaxian cocktail, and/or an Arkanoid: Revenge of Doh cocktail since I have all the parts to install either of those games. (Minus the glass top artwork).

I'm attempting to determine what I should convert it to before selling.

Thanks.

Not sure about arkanoid, but in these parts a nice working Galaxian cocktail with fetch $300 to $400 all day long..... +/- $50

Galaxian is often overlooked as a "classic" game because of the popularity of Galaga but you will probably find that is more valuable than Arkanoid (regardless of version).

Agreed. My vote is to return it to a Galaxian.

If you want to convert before selling than 60 in 1 is cheaper than either option and sells for more.

Pretty sure I saw a Arkanoid (in Midway cocktail) beat a Galaxian cocktail in price 2 auctions ago. However I don't really recall the conditions of either machine.

Thanks everyone. It seems like Galaxian is the way to go. But is it best to go with selling one on Ebay, Craigslist, or KLOV?

The non-working cocktail cabinet which presently has Arkanoid: R.O.D. was originally a Galaxian in it's first life, so I guess it would be appropriate to return it to that. (I could also make some dough selling the spinners anyway). :D).

Is there any place to get a decent Galaxian cocktail underlay?

Thanks.

Heh.. I'd rather the arkanoid..

1. It will get a hell of a lot of play.. Mine does..
2. Galaxian is well, not much fun or the replay value is a stinker..

But your question was value.. Neither would fetch a hell of a lot.. Most people (home users not us) want a galaga or mrs pacman.. But your best bang for the buck is a multi.. Which is hard for me to say out loud :(

Arkanoid kicks ass!

Really, a multi with no art under the glass will sell for twice what you can expect from a nice Galaxian cocktail and it will be cheaper too.

Yeah, I'm more of a fan of Arkanoid myself. And I do know that it is a more popular game within the home when company comes over.

But I was thinking a KLOVer would find a Galaxian more valuable for themselves, which is why I wondered if the game would go best on Ebay, Craigslist, or here. (I was considering a Pac-man or Ms. Pac-man in my other parted out Rally-X cocktail that I have Pac-man controls for).

I am trying to stay away from any multi-games, and thought I have JAMMA harnesses and switching power supplies I'm not sure the cost of a multi-board and game controls would off-set when it is sold.

Decisions, decisions...

$50 for the board, $30 for a pair of 4-way reunion sticks (to do it RIGHT). If you want to use new buttons than that is another $12 or so. $30 for a cheapy jamma harness and switcher.

$122 in parts.

A Galaxian cocktail will bring, what, $350 or $400 at best? An Arkanoid cocktail $250 or $300?

A 60 in 1 midway cocktail will sell for $800 in fairly short order.

Galaxians sit on CL for a long time even when cheap here in ny.

I am pretty sure that you could sell the midway cabinet with no game faster and for more than Galaxian.

Personally I love Galaxian, but if you want $$$ a 60-in-1 is the way to go. People eat them up in these parts.

That said, don't do it. Restore it back to Satan's Hollow or Ms. Pac.

A few auctions ago, at winston salem, a galaxian cocktail that had a black glass top, and had sprite issues went for 600. I really thought it was a 150 machine tops. Id go 60 in 1 before Arkanoid. How do you get the spinner in the control panel housing? Galaxian has the curse of a shallow control panel box, so even getting a normal joystick in there is tough. That arkanoid spinner is huge.

Did you word that correctly? And if so, do you want to buy a gameless Midway cabinet? :D

The cocktail is already an Arkanoid: Revenge of Doh. Below is a picture of one of the control panels. I have Galaxian control panels that also go on this cabinet. (It was originally a Galaxian cocktail).

It sounds to me like installing a 60-in-1 will also require me to get blank control panels, drill them, and then find artwork for them.

Darren, you don't really need to find artwork for them or new panels. If you can just get a 4-way stick and 2 buttons onto each existing panel the thing will sell.

If you were building it for yourself or for me then you would want special control panel artwork and a new underlay. However non-collectors think completely differently than collectors and they are your target market for stuff like this.

Yes, I worded that correctly, I see empty Midway cocktails sell fast, and Galaxian cocktails sit.

Now that I see that it was originally a Galaxian, you have no choice but to restore that back to a Galaxian. Yes, I am nutz like that. ;) Actually though a Ms Pac cocktail will fetch more $$.

Also, I am full, no more games.

Also remember that a Galaxian cocktail will have shorter (as in vertical depth) control panels as they used a left / right knob as opposed to a joystick. A regular joystick will not fit into the control panel boxes without modification somewhere.

I think I let mine go for $260 and the buyer picked it up and carried it downstairs with me. I had offers for $350 (my original listing price) but got tired of all the craigslist flakes so I lowered the price and got a solid interest that was just getting into the hobby. A move didn't work out and I needed the space so it had to go. I've learned that people who knock Galaxian haven't played it on actual hardware in a while.

Yes, that is the same as the Galaxian control panels I have.

I actually wanted to convert it back to Galaxian and give the game to someone I know in the Netherlands, but from what I'm told the cost of shipping would be too prohibitive.

I just scored half a dozen nos Galaxian cocktail control knobs, also found on dedicated midway space invaders cocktails.. If you need a set :)

Conversion back to Galaxian or Arkanoid

If it is Arkanoid leave it alone and jazz it up. A 60 IN 1 WILL sell for a good chunk of coin.

If you were keeping it I would order the new joystick conversion panels and put in an Arcade SD with a new Galaxian underlay and customize the CP art to Galaxian Art. At least it would be fun.

Another option is to order a Galaxian hardware multigame kit but those were expensive so out of the question.
