I've been mailing with Mike Coates who is the creator of the Galaxian Multi-kit.

This kit allows you to play 18 different games, all based on the original Galaxian hardware. So NO emulation.
It also does high-score saving (which is the main reason I want it). Note that some games require 4 way joysticks and I think one or two require an extra button. I'm not going to hack my 2-way joystick, but there's still plenty of 2-way games to play.

Here's all the info about it:

The kits have been sold out for some time, but Mike is willing to do a (small) run of PCB's if there's more interest for them (read DEDICATED interest).

So, hands up please, who would be interested ?

I am definitely down for one. I have been planning on getting one all along. My Galaxian has already been converted to a 4-way stick.

It seems a bit on the expensive side (about 100 clams for the diy kit) to me but definitely cool.

Is that a Yes or No ?

I can't really say anything about the price, I haven't discussed that with Mike (we're not even into that phase ;)).
For now, I assume the price's as mentioned on the site. Yes not as cheap as many other kits, but look at the number of games implemented. A lot of hard work went into it.

Anyway, I put some of you on the "YES" I'm interested list and some on the "Maybe".

Thanks to all for replying.

If the price would come down for DIY, AND I could pick which ones to burn into the chip I'd be interested.

However I have no interest in hacking my panels to put 4/8 way joysticks in in place of a 2 way. I would like to pick the best 2 way games that run on the Galaxian hardware and put those on instead.

Or would like to make it so I could put all non-2 way games on that use the driver and install that in another cab.

Mixing them though just doesn't work for me. Mike's a great guy and has some good stuff - but for me it just isn't packaged the way I'd like/would use it.

What do mean by Hack ?

Add a 4-way stick and add 2 wires to the harness ?

What else would need to be done ?

I don't have a Galaxian and interested in knowing what I'd have to do to use the Multi in that cab .

The 2-way stick in a Galaxian is nothing like a 4-way stick. It mounts differently. Also, the hole in the control panel is oblong for the 2-way stick. It would need to be drilled/punched out to a round hole in order to use a 4-way stick.

My Galaxian was pretty rough when I got it. It had already been converted and I have converted it back. In rebuilding the control panel, I went ahead and made the mods to the control panel in order to put in a 4-way stick in plans for some day getting this multi hack.

Thanks !

Mmmm... yeah I don't like physically hacking any classic game .

And if you have a Galaxian cocktail, it's actually a lever and not a joystick. It mounts in a brass column and would not be easy to convert.

Unique cocktail control:

Upright control:

Upright overlay opening: Rounded rectangle, not circle:

I saw a Galaxian cocktail with that lever thing on ebay and wondered if it was original . I haven't played one before but I think I'd like a joystick better ,
