Anyone ever mess with the Wells Gardner K4500 found in the Galaxian cab? Holy crap this is a strange beast. There are no less than EIGHTEEN different convergence adjustment options found on the neck board. It's insane. I've been following the adjustment directions found in the manual, but good grief, this some kind of witchcraft. Will I ever get this thing converged correctly?

delta gun crts are a total pain to deal with... this guy explains it all pretty well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8eK2CyDmiY

Very good video - thanks! I believe I need to spend more time with the tube first (rejuvenator) and then purity. I have not adjusted the yoke yet, and I see that needs to be set first before convergence begins.

A couple of the pots used in dynamic convergence aren't very smooth adjusting - nothing happens when moving the pot until the very end of travel, and then it "snaps" to a new location. I'll need to replace those pots in order to get good dynamic convergence.

I have to be careful with this tube - it's a type I've never seen before, and there's likely zero chance I'll ever be able to find another one for a tube swap.

Delta gun tubes are the real thing, man. When inline gun tubes came out, they marketed them as "self-converging" because they were so much simpler.

Those old "Delta" gun picture tubes aren't even worth bothering with. I'd swap in a more modern monitor IMO.

I have a spare 4900 sitting here on the shelf I could use, but man, wouldn't that be kinda sacrilege? I mean, the 4500 us unique to the cab, right?

I suppose I could swap the 4900 in for the time being until I can manually adjust the 4500 by hand on the bench. Once I get it dialed in, I could put it back.

The 4500 is basically a TV set converted to work in arcade cabinets. It's not a great monitor. Junk it.

take a BFH to it just to make sure it will never come back to life...

There was a 4500 in my Sega/Gremlin Frogger cab. I tried messing with it at first, and after about an hour, it got trashed. What a time-waster of a monitor.

Hilarious. I had no idea. It actually has a pretty decent picture. Shame I'll have to junk it.

I'm selling a crap-tastic Double Dragon cabinet soon; maybe I'll toss it in there. I had put a Wei-Ya monitor in there, but I'll hold it for something else.

:D

It's hard to refute Ken's advice on such things, as well as the other seasoned collectors too!

FWIW, I'm a glutton for pain and originality whenever possible, but... I did install a GO7 in my Galaxian.

However, I still have the 4500 tucked away so when that possible day comes where CRT's are outrageously collectable, expensive, and exceedingly hard to ship because of some future hazardous waste classification, and I need one for another project, I'll probably pull the 4500 back out and commence to weeping outwardly while trying to make it work in the Galaxian again... 😂

Maybe I'll fail, maybe I'll succeed, but I wouldn't toss it unless it's trashed.

Besides, I'm seeing more and more monitors with corrosion and hacked boards from poor storage and picked over OP stashes so's I've been snatching up what I can when it's priced right and I have a spot for it.

Did they put 4600s in Galaxian? I'm pretty sure mine is bone stock and I thought it had a 4600 in it. 19K4601 I think.
