Galaxian Is Really Bugging Me! The 100K Club Is One Tough Ticket To Get...

It's been 32 years since I've been in the Galaxian 100k club. Been trying to get back in lately... Guess I forgot what a motha' of a tough old school game this really is!

Started up again after a pre CAX layoff. Just got the 70k recently, so I figured I would be coasting to 100k soon. NOT.

Any help like playing tips, moral support, zen-like playing advice, a hug, etc. would be appreciated:) Very frustrating game!

And show us those high score save scoreboards...

Hi, I have been trying to beat my 19,xxx score for half a year. I would love to hit even 25K. The game rules.

I feel for you. I'm lucky to get past round 1. It is a really hard game, I'd have to agree.

I've been playing my Galaxian too , trying to get 100K . I can get to 65,000.

I need to check what version I have . I read theres two versions and one is harder than the other .

Anyone know how to check which one the PCB is running ?

25K is only a couple more levels than where your high is now... Git.'Er.Done. Good luck and... HIGH FIVE!!

Best advice I got for you is "Don't Die!"

Good advise... which I completely failed to heed on my last guy last game.

Never heard of the different difficulty levels. Need more info... Good luck in your quest for the 100K Club! Hope to see ya there.

Well, fought my ass off just a while ago to almost clear 19 rounds/sets/levels (Flags, lower right)... I was sooo pissed, ran right into an easy blue ship to end the game. 56K just made the last spot on the board...

This is where I read theres two versions ,

-R.U: You've likened mastering Galaxian to putting the pieces of a puzzle altogether. When did the pieces start to fit and you finally realised you had a shot at the W.R.?

-AvV: ........ Also, the Galaxian at Fun Spot was housing a board set 2, which is the more difficult version with much more diagonal and stray enemy fire. I did manage to get a 782k on it though (the current W.R. for romset 2). Perry Rodgers (an extremely knowledgeable and nice guy) brought his own Romset1 Galaxian-board with him and I played on it, but he wasn't really there long enough for me to do any serious damage (to the record, not to his board. LOL!). So at this point I wasn't even contemplating getting the W.R. yet. It wasn't until I sent some eproms to Fun Spot to change their version from 2 to 1, that I thought I had agood chance to beat 1M and possibly Gary's W.R.

This is a machine I hope to pick up one day. I have several of the console versions I like to play even though they are most likely easier than the real thing.

I was able to break 100k earlier in the year at Yestercades in Red Bank, NJ while practicing it for an upcoming tourney. I never much cared for it but it grew on me a bit. Now I like it better than Galaga.

Yup, there's an "old gameplay" and "new gameplay" variant. There used to be a Galaxian webpage awhile back that had a simple test to perform in the first stage to see how the enemies would react to figure out what version you had.

The "old gameplay" version's invaders lead with their shots, making getting beneath them extremely difficult when the game starts to really ramp up. Additionally the invaders drop more shots that drift around diagonally and tend to fire more wildly.

The "new gameplay" version's invaders tend to drop fire straight down with far less diagonal travel. This means their shots tend to trail behind the direction of their movement, allowing a more predictable firing spread.

Plateauing around 50,000 points consistently (old gameplay) was one of the reasons I ended up selling my cocktail last November.

Looking forward to watching this this... Get that live stream set up!

Then perhaps a little Boost would help your game...

And a Moppet Galaxian might help too...

Thanks. Interesting stuff. I read through the interview a little more... Also some playing tips near the end.

Good luck. Finding a nice upright might be difficult... I've had a cocktail (don't really like the flipper control) I'm playing on Sav's cabaret now, which is here at the Bri-O-Sphere 2.1...

Well done. Love the flags for level count:cool: Okay, so about 30 some levels/flags... I'm close.

Thanks for the info. Gonna try to dig up more on this...

Necro bumping some galaxian threads. Been playing this quite a bit since getting it in the basement a couple weeks ago. Tonight I got my best score, thanks to voodoo ranger, but looks looks like I have a ways to go.

Also, swapped in super galaxian earlier today and the speed difference blew me away..super galaxian is a blast as well.
