Galaxian High Score Save Kits - READY!!!!

Mine saves the high scores perfectly, but every now and then my firing sound gets high pitched. Rather than Psssh Psssh, it goes Peeeew, Peeeew, but way higher pitched the the Asteroids peew, peew. I also lose the explosion sound once in a while. Not saying it's the kit, but the game never did these things til I installed it. We are now basically playing an emulated version of Galaxian, correct?

I have not experienced that. is this on normal speed or on rapid fire?
There is no emulation, you are running the real game code (with some modifications) on real hardware.

It must be on normal speed if that's how the kit shipped, I haven't changed anything. How do you switch to rapid fire? My kit came with no instructions.

It is not a kit setting, it is a galaxian dip setting.
It uses the unused dip switch... #6 I think, I can check tonight.

OK, cool. Great kit though, it's nice to see the HS there when I turn the machine on. Is there a setting for freeplay on Galaxian?

OK, I tried fast lasers (dip 6 on). It actually is way too easy and kinda takes the fun out of what was a challenging game. And when you have it set on fast lasers, sometimes your shots go right thru the Galaxian ships. Not always, but at least 30% of the time I would fire 2 or 3 shots right at a diving ship and my blast would just keep going, as would the kamikaze ship who would then keep advancing and kill me. If you set it to fast lasers, you kinda miss the point of Galaxian. Great kit though.

Rapid fire is not for everyone, but it is what it is.
It could probably be tweaked a little to be more accurate but not sure it would be worth the effort. I think most people play it at normal speed.

I know I will. You guys are doing a great thing though, these kits are nice to have.

Are there any diagnostics functions built into the HS kit? I realize Galaxian has some in the base code, but am curious if any additional diagnostic coding was added? I have regular, 4-in-1 and 18-in-1 Galaxian boards, but would also like to find a kit that would help with repairs, similar to the Pac-Man ABC kit from Two-Bit Score. Just a thought.

Nope, just the built in diagnostics. If you download the galaxian test rom from ionpool (attached to this post also), you should be able to burn it to a 27c512 and plug it in the high score save kit and it should run

put mine in today(purchased off ebay), works great but i clearly had a much different rom set. my high score on the "original" roms was 49k. i played i think four games with the kit and could only muster 15k. i made my girlfriend play(haha) and in like 2 seconds she says "what the hell? what level am i on?" then lost at 1100 points. her high used to be 12k. i may actually have to switch back so that other people have fun playing it

kit is very nice though. the only suggestion i would have if it was possible would be to play a blip noise of some type when you enter an initial in for the high score

There are a couple of different romsets, not sure what the differences are.
Not sure if there will be a version 2 of this game, but if there is I will consider the blip noise

Just a curious question. Is it possible to get rid of the graphics ROMs on the end of the board with a kit like this?

Nice work on the kit!
