Just trying to figure a few things out about the repro screened Galaxian CPO I recently bought. First, were the originals a darker or more powder blue color? Also, were the aliens printed out of registration, or were they lined up perfectly? Also, the screened one uses a paler yellow than the inkjet one. Seems backwards, but it may be correct? I assume the screened one is more accurate, but I have never seen an original up close, so I thought I'd ask.

I currently have an inkjet repro on my machine that has the powder blue and perfectly aligned aliens:

It was put on by the previous owner so I'm not sure where it came from or what file they're using. The screened repro I just bought is from Arcade Renovations I believe. It has the darker blue and the offset aliens:

My 2 galaxians have proper coloring and no offset aliens. AR was known for selling misprints and flooding the market with them. (e.g. their Qbert print that had his shadow 100% solid black instead of dotted black showing the colors of the pyramid cubes from behind).

Well I bought a Pacman repro from the same guy, who thinks the CPO's may have both come from the same place. Here's a pic of that compared to my inkjet multi Pac CPO:

regestration on those orginals will ALL vary to some degree
theres just not enough "trap" to keep those little details in check

my most recent repro was color matched to NOS
so the blues and yellows are better then both my previous version from a few years ago and especially that one from Arcade Renovations.

Hah, Rich and I had a lot of e-mails going back and forth between us about the Galaxian CPO. I think his is close to perfect now :)

I first bought one from Arcadeshop.com and it had that huge misalignment too. When I complained I had to send pictures that I had cut up the original so he would be sure I would not use it.....I made a nice video of it instead and mailed that.....and I did get my money back.

I do know the original has the bullets before the instructions.

What a dick. I'd have wiped my ass with it and mailed it back to him. Anyone who's that paranoid about a customer scamming them has no business being in a customer service related field. WTF ever happened to the customer is always right?

I agree. But the fact of life is that I still need some of his stuff now and then.

However, I prefer to shop elsewhere whenever possible...

If I compare how Rich "went in with me" about the Galaxian CPO....that's how you build a solid reputation in a rather small community like this....

I agree. Rich mailed me a custom CPO and marquee that the USPS absolutely DESTROYED the box:

Rich mailed me a new CPO and marquee at no charge. Did he ask me to show him pictures of me cutting up the old one? Sheah, right. I'm a customer of his for life, as far as I'm concerned.

With flash/white balance/monitor color balance/etc, posting and reviewing colors on the internet can be a challenge.

With that said...

I have (what I believe to be, I'm new to this arcade cabinet thing) a machine with an original control panel overlay on it. The colors are not offset, and I believe the blue of the aliens is different (darker) from the blue in the borders.

There's a not-so-great picture from my cell phone in this album - http://imgur.com/a/LpT1l/#4

I'll take some more when I get home tonight if you want.

One thing I have learned is that there wasn't much quality control at Midway on the Galaxian artwork. Look at mine, they forgot the blue layer on the kick plate:

I actually like it better that way though.

There were 2 different (at least) versions. One with the blue on the kickplate and one without. The ones without usually had the light blue t-molding vs. the flouro green.

Thanks! That is very interesting, the molding on mine is obviously the original and it is green. Light blue would look pretty cool though. I am not changing it though.
