Hi All,

I just picked up a Galaxian Cocktail that I had planned on gutting and putting a multicade in. But after getting the game and getting it playing well, I hate to tear it up, but still want to be able to play other games on it.

Im looking for suggestions on how to reversibly make it play a jamma board.

I plan on making new control panels and not hacking the originals up. I also want to refrain from hacking the harness so is there a Jamma to Galaxian (or similar) adapter I can get? Or would it be better to just piggy back a complete jamma harness into the cabinet and just unhook the galaxian harness?

I want to do this right to keep from sacraficing a classic. But I also know a single game will not hold my interest long term so that drives the desire to have the multicade board in it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just realized I put this in the wrong forum.....

While I intend to restore the cabinet cosmetically, Im sure I'll be chastized for even considering these mods in restoration forum....

Hi All,

I just picked up a Galaxian Cocktail that I had planned on gutting and putting a multicade in. But after getting the game and getting it playing well, I hate to tear it up, but still want to be able to play other games on it.

If it's a working Galaxian cocktail, find a buyer for it and then use the money towards one of the gazillion multi-cocktails out there. Right now, there are quite a few available for reasonable prices. If you can't find a clean one from some multi manufacturer, find one that's a good, already-done conversion.

DON'T DESTROY IT!!! :)
Seriously though, you MAY be better off selling it, and wrapping that money into something that would be easier to convert. The control panels on Galaxian isn't the easiest to convert, on account they have a paddle and not a joystick. You'll end up having to buy new control panels, sticks, etc, etc.....

Very nice! Is the underlay original? It looks a bit faded if it is. The original is silk screened on the back side of the glass, a repo would be a vinyl underlay... I would say that the $300-$600 is reasonable..... Probably closer to the $300 if it is a repo underlay.
DEFINITELY SELL IT!
Don't destroy it to turn it into a multi, it wouldn't be worth the time an/money to convert it.....You'd have close to $150 in a new set of control panels....take that $150, plus the $400 you can realisticly get for it, and put another $100 in....$650 would get you a NICE multi ready to go! Multi's are a dime a dozen....that my friend is a CLASSIC!
Just my opinion though.......
Of course your talking to a guy typing with this sitting 2 feet away from him.....
And if you get serious about selling it, PM me, I want a pic with 3 sitting together! :)

Yeah it a screened glass top. The glass is scratched up, but original. Not much wear on the screen printing though which is nice....

I doubt its faded.... likely just the camera effect.

Yeah I'll probably clean it up.... and may then sell it... As I said in the first post, I'd hate to tear it up... it was supposed to be a non working project.... didnt take anything to get working and well is cleaner than I expected...

I'd say this would be your best bet....That control panel wouldn't be the easiest to convert to playing games with a joystick. There are easier games to convert to a multi......
Good luck! PM me if you can get that thing to Ohio!! :)

Let me tell you that I have converted two Galaxian cocktails to 60-in-1 Pac-Man graphic multigames for my work. It is NOT easy. Even if you buy those replacement panels from Arcadeshop with the round joystick hole, there isn't enough space under the panel for the joystick body. You'll have to cut a hole in the wood underneath the panel for the body, and then install some type of plate over the bottom to keep wandering hands from messing with it...

Glad to hear that this cabinet is going to remain original.

Although, I'd kill to have an original cocktail glass in that shape. The ill colored repro underlay sucks. :(
