I am new to arcade restoration, so I apologize in advance for any amateur questions. I recently got my first arcade machine, a Galaxian cabinet, that is in decent shape. Everything works, but the monitor is dim and the color is a bit off on a 2 inch strip on the left side. It makes it marginally usable. I though I would start with a cap kit for the monitor and see if things improve.

Looking at the monitor, it has a sticker on the tube that says Sylvania CD19VEGP22. I Googled that and got nothing. Reading the forums I saw references to Sylvania CRTs in a Wells Gardner 19K4500 chassis.

How can I tell if this the case for my cabinet (how do ID the chassis)? Or has anyone dealt with this setup?

Thanks!

Sylvania is the manufacturer of the tube, and what you want is the manufacturer and model number of the chassis. Check out Bob's Monitor ID page and compare against what you have.

This is also some good background on monitors: http://www.therealbobroberts.net/rgbcable.html

ieure - those links were great. As far as I can tell this is a WG K4500. I think the small control board gives it away. I attached a couple pics if anyone is interested.

Buffett - thanks for the advice. I did update my location. I also attached a couple of screen pics. I hope the quality is OK - I took them in the evening. If you look at "screen1 (Medium).jpg" you can see that the text (like 1UP, HIGH SCORE, and MIDWAY) does not have much definition and is hard to read (I did try messing with the focus). Also, the colors on the right are kind of off. When the aliens work their way over there, they go from blue to purple.

Any thoughts on whether a cap kit might improve this situation?

sure no prob happy to help.

yes you have a 4500

a cap kit would not hurt it no.
but be careful when you do it not many people here work on them or care for them.

and if it does not work after the cap kit don't be surprised if you are advised to get a better monitor.

4500's suck to work on.

and that is about as much as i know about them.
