Ok so I bought a nice original Midway Galaga board for my wife.

I'm trying to get all things sorted out, so when I am ready to buy/build I can know what I'm doing. When building my DK machine the worst part was stopping b/c I didn't know how to wire something correctly.

Anyway, coming off the CPU board is a place for a 44-pin edge connector. I am looking over the wiring diagram from the manual but notice there's only going to be 19 wires that connect into the edge connector. I need to know what slot each wire goes into basically.

I'm sorry if these are stupid questions but also, b/c it's a 44-pin connector ( 2 rows of 22) Will I have wires coming from only the top row? If someone has a Galaga machine, a few close up pictures of the wires that come off the edge connector would help, alsso showing which slot each connects to.

One last question. In the manual, everything goes from the CPU board to a Filter Board, and then out to it's final destination. Will I need a filter board? what's it's purpose? I am going to be wiring everything up manually. So I'm using the original board to new power supply, new buttons, new joystick, newish TV (with a RGB to component converter probably).

Any concerns? This is basically what I did with my DK machine but it had a video inverter in addition. I figure it should work for Galaga?

I have an Original Galaga that i just finished getting back into full working order. I can snap you some pics of my PCB tomorrow as Im on duty today and dont get off till 0800.

Also my cab has an upgraded power supply which allowed me to remove the filter board and provide better voltage.

You can also search my posts (I have 2 galaga threads) and see what others have told me.

Pics to follow tomorrow :)

Awesome jb! Thanks a ton and I'll check your posts to see if I can't learn some more stuff. Looking forward to your pics tomorrow.

Ha ha yea i found a local one for 350 that wasnt too bad except the monitor was out. But with the help of the forums it was quickly diagnosed and repaired. And I am sure we can get you going.

You want to buy a wiring harness from a Galaga cab? ;)

@channelmanic , hmmmm how much? I think I can build my own for roughly $15. I don't mind wiring it myself, I just need to know the correct pinouts.

I think this is what you are looking 4.....

EDIT:

Just watch the 3 pin connector...The +12 goes straight to the amp...The +5 is on the side with the j2 printed on the pcb in the pic of that link...

If u need more pics let me know and ill pull the boards outta the cab :)

Ok so I'm pretty sure this is exactly like the links had, and what the manual says. The only thing the manual did not have on it was #9. But I assume the wires from the coin mechs might have been spliced into one that ran into the CPU board slot "K".

I also matched this up with your wiring JB. Everything is finally making sense :)

Being a graphic designer, if I couldn't make a chart that simple I might want to get out of the profession lol....

Anyway, don't know if you're ever in Missouri, but if you are, you are more than welcome to have your fair share of my homebrew. Thanks for the pictures!

Cheers
