Hello. I picked up three non-working Galaga boardsets. I was able to swap enough chips around to make one good one out of the three. Several of the custom chips had brittle pins and broke between the three, so one of the boardsets will be a parts board for me.

For the last boardset in question, I matched the CPU board to a known working Video board. When I boot it up, all I get is a white screen. I also took the Video board and matched it up to a known working CPU board. When I booted up, I got a full screen of nothing but white zeros.

Anyone know how to fix either the CPU, Video, or both? I swapped out all the 2114 Ram on the Video board for kicks, but got the same result.

Thanks

did you check for bad sockets and resistor packs/networks?

Also, if you're not interested in repairing those broken custom ICs, I'll be more than happy to take them off your hands.

I need all I can get.

Oh, and if you figure it out... lemme know. I have a Galaga board here that gives me nothing but white M's or W's.

Clean the legs on the custom chips and replace the nasty sockets on the boards.

Those MUST be done before you can get a stable enough board to troubleshoot for other problems. Besides, you'd be surprised at how many Galaga issues get repaired from just doing that.

Thanks for the posts

Thanks for the posts guys. I hate brittle custom chip pins. They are such a pain. They break so easily.

I checked for bad resistor packs (after I had already posted the thread of course :) ) and RM4's resistor pack on the video board has been broken off. Hopefully replacing that will fix it. I'll just rob the RM4 resistor pack from my parts board and we'll see what happens after the replacement.

Make sure its the newer style resistor, not the skinny flat ones. Channelmanic also sells a galaga renew kit if you need it.
