Well as some of you may know, I picked up a waterlogged Galaga.

I got it cheap enough, so instead of trying to just fix the bottom, I am just re-building the whole thing. Now it would be nice to have one of those CNC routers, but I don't. What I have is a hand router, hand circular saw, drill etc Just hand tools, and I like to see if I can build stuff with just what I have.

So far I think it's coming out pretty good. I hope to have the black painted on the inside monitor surround, and the back/top tomorrow. I got a ton of samples of black vinyl looking for one that was not matte, and not Super glossy. More of a semi gloss, or med gloss to match the original. Well I found some and have it on order. Should be here later this week. So I'm going to re-vinyl the sides and put new sideart on.

Anyone who's looked at, or re-built one of these midway cabs knows they did a lot of tongue and groove routing to fit the sides and shelves in place. It's a PITA to duplicate with a hand router without making templates. So instead I used some Atari cabinet making ideas mixed with the Midway stuff. The glass supports are just glued and stapled, the sides were fitted with Stringers, that were glued, stapled, and screwed together.

Now why the MDF, it's a little cheaper than ordering 3/4 birch. It's readily available, and easy to work with, plus it will have the semi original look I am going for.

So here's some pics, and I'll update as I make more progress.

Thanks guys.. The pictures have been updated click on the link in the first post.

Most everything is about done. Waiting on black vinyl to come in. I still need to get side art, and CPO buttons, etc.. Oh and rebuild the coin door.

The Monitor bezel isn't bad, so I'm debating on replacing it with a repro.. I may leave it.

Someone had already put a switcher in it, but wired it directly to ac so it was on all the time. So that's been corrected. I may find an original power supply and put back in it dunno yet.

Right now it's a toss up between green and red t-molding.

Looks very nice!! Good job. You can probably touch up that bezel from behind and make it 99%. As long as it doesn't have big scratches in it this can usually be done and look completely unnoticable.

Yeah I know, just going back to the begining when I re-built my first Tempest. This one's a keeper. I need more practice on the game play though.

Well I've got plenty of time to go jogging now. My vinyl order was on backorder, and just got shipped today, and with the holidays coming, it proabably won't be here before I leave out of town to visit family.. UGH.. These people should really tell you something is on backorder when you order it, so I can order from someone else.

On other news, I scored 199,310 on TG settings.

Argg.. Crushing development.. My artwork from Phoenix Arcade came today, and the post office crushed the box, and the art has wrinkles in it.. This sucks.. The CPO has one small spot, as does the kick panel. But they are liveable, I think the CPO will smooth out because of the thickness, and texture it should be ok. The kickpanel will prolly see some scuffs with normal use. But the sides.. Damn... This bites, because this art really looks great..

Nope Phoenix shipped it in a box. I've emailed them about it, and no response yet. Don't know if they answer emails on the weekend.

It would have been nice to have had them shipped in a tube though.

Those look like NOS since they have the MIDWAY across the top. Most repros don't have that. Are those new repros? If not, those scratches could be wear from age and storage.

NO they are very nice Repros

Working with Phoenix Arcade on the problem. Will prolly have to wait on the Post Office since he'll have to file a claim. So my project will be on hold for a while.

Interesting....their top pic without the MIDWAY is the repros I am used to seeing:

But that's good that they offer a more true to original version.
