Well as some of you may know, I picked up a waterlogged Galaga.
I got it cheap enough, so instead of trying to just fix the bottom, I am just re-building the whole thing. Now it would be nice to have one of those CNC routers, but I don't. What I have is a hand router, hand circular saw, drill etc Just hand tools, and I like to see if I can build stuff with just what I have.
So far I think it's coming out pretty good. I hope to have the black painted on the inside monitor surround, and the back/top tomorrow. I got a ton of samples of black vinyl looking for one that was not matte, and not Super glossy. More of a semi gloss, or med gloss to match the original. Well I found some and have it on order. Should be here later this week. So I'm going to re-vinyl the sides and put new sideart on.
Anyone who's looked at, or re-built one of these midway cabs knows they did a lot of tongue and groove routing to fit the sides and shelves in place. It's a PITA to duplicate with a hand router without making templates. So instead I used some Atari cabinet making ideas mixed with the Midway stuff. The glass supports are just glued and stapled, the sides were fitted with Stringers, that were glued, stapled, and screwed together.
Now why the MDF, it's a little cheaper than ordering 3/4 birch. It's readily available, and easy to work with, plus it will have the semi original look I am going for.
So here's some pics, and I'll update as I make more progress.
