I've got an original Galaga PCB that works fine except for the following issues:

(1) It has a rapid fire board attached inside but the game does not in fact have rapid fire. When I disconnect this board, the games works except that it doesn't fire at all. Any ideas why either of those behaviors are occurring?

(2) I cannot get the game to play on the hardest (Rank "D") setting. The dip switches are properly set for the hardest difficulty (on/off for switches 2 and 3) level but the game instead plays on the second hardest (Rank "C") setting. Again, any ideas why this would happen?

Thanks in advance for your help.

it sounds like your board is not fine and it has some problems.

It seems your board is only picking up on one pulse instead of the two on your board. It might be as simple as a cap issue or the chip itself.

Check the dip switches and see if the switch is working. Sometime those dust and junk prevents them from working and even thos mechanically they switch electrically they do not.

The rapid (really "automatic") fire board works, but is on the set of pins that disables it. That's fine since I don't want it anyway. So that answers that question.

The dip switches still don't give me the proper difficulty setting.

I would ohm out the dip switche(s) to make certain they are working. It is not uncommon for them to fail. If it is not a swtich then look at schematics for other locations to look at.

Note: power has to be off before the switch positions take.
