Hi,

A buddy of mines Galaga just stopped working and displays a "RAM 4L" error message. Looking at the manual it says its position 3H which is 2114-2 ST RAM. Does that seem correct? Also, if this RAM is out would it be smart to order any others from Bob while I am at it? Not sure if theres is a typical set that fails or anything.

Thanks for any help.

I would probably remove all 8 of them ram chips and go with the (2) 2148 (1kx4). There is less chips and you only need two. I would order extras for a spare set. You can put a working chip piggy back on the non working one and it can tell you if it is the chip or not.
This link has a good explanation of what to do. The 2148 chips are a bit more but you don't need many (2).

I have an older Galaga board that I have no clue if it works or not but someone replaced all ram with 2 x 2149... what is the difference between that and 2148?

The 2149 does not support a shut down power down feature that the 2148 does use.
A feature not needed in arcade machines .

In most cases you can sub a 2149 in place of a 2148 with no problem.
Also on the galaga you dont have to replace all the 2147, there are two banks. In other words you can replace 4 of the 2147 with a 2148 and leave the other 4 2147 in place.

You guys are missing it...

2114 is NOT the individual video RAMs on Galaga.

Replace the 2114 with 2114 from Bob's site. Order an extra one or two just in case.

I had the same problem

My Galaga has the same issue... was not memory at all, was low voltage. Might check that.
