Hey everyone. I have this Galaga that I picked up a few months back. Worked good but had the occassional reset. SO I rebuilt the PS and that solved the reset issues. Then, it started to have a checker board pattern at the bottom of the screen. Today, I reseated and cleaned all of the chips. Broke 3 legs, but soldered them to a new leg. When I turn on the machine, I got a L2 code. Went back and reflowed the solder joints on the chips. Now, I do not get the Boom. The rolling star background is there, but "R (a characture I do not recognize, kinda a Q or a funny 3) 6 25". Any ideas?

Thanks,
Randel

I got some questions on this issue.

1. What board is this?
a) is it a single board or two board system?
b) does this board have the older flat ceramic resistor packs or not?
2. What were the chip(s) that had the broken legs?
3. What are your voltages?

Sorry for the delay.

Been out of town for a few weeks so the hobby got put on the back burner.

This is a two board set. The numbers are CPU 084-91404-C508 and the Video PC #A084-91405-B508.

The board does have the SIP (flat) resistors. The voltages are fine (12+DCV and 5.1DCV). The legs were broken on chip 1N (0719) on the video board and 3L (Galaga "C") and 4H (5165) on the PCU. I have attached some photos of what it is showing. After spending several hours looking on various web sites, I can't seem to find a list of codes. IS one available?

Any help is appreciated. My Galaga jonesing is getting so bad that I might have to play on the computer...ugh!

Thanks,
Randel

And the saga continues....

Borrowed a known working board from a friend (thanks Jason) and tried changing chips. Now my board set does nothing. No screen. The monitor is working, as I put the working board in the cab and played a few games flawlessly. Guess I will start looking for "Dead Board" posts. I will post what I find.

Thanks,
Randel

You probably lost some pins on the custom chips. It happens.

Those pins are very fragile.

Resistor packs have broken legs.

I have found some of the resistor packs with broken legs. Where can I find these? Is there a rebuild kit for these boards that include the packs and caps?

Thanks,
Randel

No, but I have a kit that includes all new 24/28/40/42 pin sockets and new resistor packs that I sell on my web site.

Be VERY careful when replacing parts on the Galaga boards as it's VERY easy to pull plated thru holes and/or traces.

Instructions are a simple free download on my site. Look on the downloads page.

Do you have a cap kit for the board?

I will order the packs and sockets. Just checking on the caps.

Thanks,
Randel
