Galaga Problem

I turned on my Galaga a few weeks ago and something popped in the back. I had the back door off and smoke appeared around the center of the back of the game, near the monitor. Now I get nothing. Any suggestions. I only hope my monoitor is not shot.

Thank you.

unplug the game from the wall outlet and check the fuses in the bottom of the game. If they're sound, then unplug the monitor power from the cabinet. It will be the set of two or three thicker wires that go to the monitor, not the 4 or 5 thinner ones. Then try powering up your machine and see if it will coin up and if you get game sounds. Then you'll know if it's the monitor or not. Monitors are easy to fix.

Sounds like a flyback. If it really stunk then that would be it. Look for a crack in the flyback casing.
Look for a blown Capacitor. Usually the top will be blown off, but in some cases it launches like a rocket and all you have left is the legs soldered in.
