All,

A friend has a galaga that I believe has PS issues. He is getting RAM errors, but the board tests fine on my test bench. According to him, the PS is producing only 4v, so I am assuming that is the problem (have not had a chance to head down there and test it).

Is there a way to rebuild these Power Supplies or do I need to replace or go with a switcher?

There is an adjustment knob on there to change the voltage. Might want to try that first.

I think Bob Roberts has a rebuild kit.

You can also go with a switcher.

Thank you.

Is the voltage adjustment done with VR1 on the PS board?

My 2 cents... save yourself the time & effort of repair now and in the future.... just install a switcher now. Cheap, super easy to do and you won't have PS problems in the future.

Is it sufficient to just connect to the 3 pin molex or do I need to re-wire up the card edge adapter too?

I usually remove the old power supply, and wire up the switcher in it's place. All the wires are right there within reach. On the output connector of the original power supply....the orange wire is 12VDC.....all the red wires go to 5VDC.......and everything else (EXCEPT THE SOLID WHITE WIRE) is grounds. There's a bunch of them....yellow, yellow/black, yellow/red, yellow/violet, white/green.....all go to ground. The solid white wire is for the coin counter. I just leave it in the old connector (and not use it).

Sometimes Galaga's will reboot or not load if the voltage is too low. I usually set it at 5.20 vdc...

Thank you....

Man up and rebuild that ps, tiny pants.

LOL... two things...

First, you know me... afraid of solder :D As this is not my game, I want to give Andy the option of what to do. I would care less...

Second... tiny pants? you remember who I am, right? LOL I'm the guy with the 5' 8" kid who just turned 12 who wears Men's 12 shoes, remember? I haven't been tiny pants for a couple of years... :D

God he is getting big, at least Conner is normal size.;)

If it is for Andy, just slap a switcher in it and be done with it. I would be interested in the old ps if Andy doesn't want it anymore after you are done.

Connor, normal? Far from it. He is my clone... no chance at normalcy :D He is in the 95th Percentile... The funny thing is that when the doctor measured Jory, he showed us the charts that they use to figure out percentile... he was off the chart. LOL

Will let you know...
