The power connection going into the power pcb in my Galaga is hot. I mean so hot you can't touch it. It started random rebooting which I'm sure is tied to this but not sure what to test.

Attached is the connection I'm talking about. Any ideas?

the power supply needs a complete rebuild including header and wire harness connectors. i suspect you have cold solder joints especially on the headers and even your diodes are hot so if you continue to run this game you will continue to do more damage and not to just the power supply. even your red connector is crispy. if you need the kits i have them in stock and all parts.

Thanks. Would I be better to just move it to a switching PSU and buy one of the conversion harnesses while I rebuild the orginal power supply?

heat is resistance as security said you need to replace the parts and he has them

since parts are available i would always keep the game original and rebuild the power supply PCB plus it will out last many cheap crappy switchers and the linear PS are much cleaner. let me know (shoot me a PM) if you need any help finding parts and i do have every parts of that pcb in stock.

I was working on some Galaga boards in the garage and saw your thread. I felt of the power connector and it was the same way - too hot to hold you fingers on. My power board has been totally rebuilt so I had no clue why.

As I was testing some other Galaga boards (one set worked) I realized that when the other boards were hooked up, the connector wasn't hot. I don't know the exact reason but I figure something on one of the first set of boards was pulling a ton of current? Could that be your problem instead of the power board? Perhaps something to look into or ask the repair guys here.

It's possible. I suppose I'll start with a rebuild and then work from there but I'm glad to know that someone else is experiencing this on a rebuilt power pcb.

I would rebuild the power supply. I'd go with the original any day over a switcher.

look at those diodes, I circled them in the photo
that could be your problem but maybe not. they need replacement too

hope the photo I uploaded works. acting funny and maybe it will be too small
will try and see
