Galaga - non-working game, inconsistent power issues

been trying to bring a Galaga multi-game i picked up back to life, thought the issue was with the CRT (it might still be but ...)

inconsistent power issues as of this morning:

* no power/glow on monitor at all (already did cap kit, fuses on G07, flyback)
* multi-game board hit or miss (LEDs on board sometimes light up, sometimes stay dark)
* marquee and speakers consistently come on

what's my next steps?? i do have a switching PS i could put in place of the factory/linear one, but i'm not sure if it's time for that yet.

When the game board lights up can you play the game blind? Is it the JAMMA multi PCB? If so why not plug it into another JAMMA machine to confirm it's working. As far as your monitor goes check the soldered in fuses on the chassis PCB for continuity. Sometimes they look OK but are really blown.

game board (some kinda JAMMA multi-game) is inconsistent in terms of getting power. sometimes LEDs light up and the menu music starts, other times stays dark. i don't think it's the game board (if i at the least got some neckglow on the monitor, i'd have a bit more faith that it's not a power issue)

already replaced the fuses on the G07

hmmm check if your power cord is loose or got dirty over time that's my first guess

You replaced them but confirm your replacements have continuity. You could have easily blown the replacements if there is another issue -- and it sounds like there is as you have an intermittent power connection somewhere in the mix.

I agree that your power cord should be checked for shorts. If it's missing the ground prong then replace it.

personally i would isolate the problem and make 100% sure its in the game pcb or monitor or power otherwise i see so many people chasing their tail assuming but truly not verifying. you can test the monitor with another game pcb or output from another cabinet and same way with the jamma board you can put it in another jamma cabinet and see if it works.
