Wired up my Galaga board with the original harness and a Bob Roberts switching PS converter. I'm not getting any sound. I checked the caps on the PCB with an ESR and three were dead. I have replaced them and still no sound.

This may sound ridiculous but I'm pretty newb at troubleshooting and I'm not sure where or how to test for sound.

Where on the board do I test for the 12v necessary for audio?

Do I test the edge connector for 12v and if so, what settings do I put my multimeter on?

What settings do I put my multimeter to test the speaker itself?

How can I tell if I have a bad audio amp on the PCB?

Sorry for the basic questions but I just need sound for everything to work and not sure why its not working. Any help is very appreciated.

Figured it out. Edge connector was reversed. Uh, oops. I guess I got lucky because with Galaga you can have the edge connector on either way and it won't damage the board. Flipped it and now have sound.

lol. Glad my blunder could help out! Actually, I read through a bunch of posts and came across one where someone had the same issue and it turned out that the edge connector reversed.

I decided to try it on mine. I reversed it, closed my eyes and prayed that it wouldn't fry my board as I turned it back on. :)

Luckily it worked.

It's kind of deceiving, at least on mine because the harness with the three pronged plug looks like it should only go on one way but that happens to be the wrong way.

Mine is the exact same way! Probably how it ended up backwards in the first place. Now I need to figure out why my fire button isn't working.

All I can think of is to check your ground wires on the control panel. They must all have continuity in order for everything to work right. You can also do a continuity check from the harness to the fire button terminal to see if there is a wiring issue. There are probably other things to check that I don't know about.

Yeah that is going to be what I check on it next, I just ran out of time (and steam) yesterday, as I'm busy rearranging again.

Actually, come to think of it, you might want to check that your fire button maps to the rapid fire board. Mine did and my fire button wouldn't work until I had the board plugged in properly.

hands pinball the "DUH" sign :D LOL

END OF LINE.

FartInTheWind: I pretty much said it was dumb in the first place. At least this thread was of help to someone. This has apparently happened to quite a few people besides me.

So I got my Galaga fully working. The fire issue was that it was plugged into the wrong spot on the rapid fire board. I don't know what the other set of pins are there for but it only works on one set.
