I just recently bought a Galaga Cabinet is great shape (all original serial #13781). It didn't get past the "RAM OK" when I first powered it on, but I cleaned all the chips and it was working perfectly!

a few days ago I adjusted the convergence and purity rings on the tube as the picture was really bad in the corners and it was looking great see pic:

I just powered in on today and it make a burning electronice smell and now it looks like this: :-(

Does anyone know what this might be? A bad cap? I normally have no problem working with electronics, but monitors scare me -- I don't want to get zapped. It took quite a bit of bravery to adjust the rings. I really want to get the original monitor working -- seems like everyone is selling LCD replacements which bothers me.

What type of monitor is it? You appear to have horizontal collapse.

I took it out and it is an RCA, Not sure if this is the model number but I saw a number that starts with 69x. I sniffed the board to see if I could smell where the burn smell came from and it looked like it was on the chassis board. The flyback didn't smell nor did the board on the back of the tube.

Um, how about nosing around in here: http://www.therealbobroberts.net/monitor.html

And tell us what make and model of monitor you have...

If it's an RCA tube, it is probably a WG4600 series monitor. That is what I just pulled from my Galaga.

RCA tubes were used in hundreds of monitors, post a pic of the chassis, I have RCA tubes on GO7's, wg4900's, hantrax , ect. this is NOT a reliable way to find what the monitor is

You have no horiz deflection (since its really a horiz monitor turned sideways), however you do have high voltage so usually thats a disconnection between the horiz circuit and the yoke. Check for a burnt resistor, and check the yoke plug for bad solder points. Must be something physically burnt if you smelled smoke!

Thanks everyone for your comments. I took some picutures of the chassis board, flyback and labels on the monitor. Any help you can provide in identifling would be awesome. The Serial tag has wg at the begining so I assume it is a Well Gardner -- which would be great cause even if I can't fix the chassis board there is a possiblilty that HAPP sells a replacement.

Also I am planning on pulling the board to inspect it, does some one have a faq about discharging a monitor -- I don't know what componets I should discharge or the best way to do so. There is a mondo capasitor on the chassis board which I assume needs to be discharged. What about he flyback -- I was reading on wikipeda that flybacks store capastance.

Thanks again

Those pictures are of a Wells-Gardner 4600 series.
