Hi all. I am interested in buying an un-renovated galaga upright. Its a little rough looking, but works fine except that you can see the grid (that usually is visible upon boot-up) in the lower 20% of the screen. Is this an easy fix or does it denote a more serious issue? Thanks so much if u can suggest anything.

Are you saying that part of white grid you normally see only during bootup is remaining in the lower section of the screen, while the rest of the screen shows normal gameplay? If so, then you have a board problem, not a monitor problem.

Or, are you saying that the only thing you get is the grid pattern, and only on part of the monitor?

Post a picture, but that's definitely a board problem. The grid is generated by the self test sequence, and if it's not getting cleared completely, then there's something weird going on with the game board.

Other than the graphics, does the game play OK?

I've never seen this problem before, but Channelmanic here knows Galaga boards really well. I'm sure he'll probably chime in. Take a good picture of the screen and post it here.

Thx again, Ian. I can't take a pic since the machines not in my possession. Gameplay is unaffected, btw. I guess I'll pass on this machine :( ! The search continues! Thx again..
