So I found a decent Galaga machine a few weeks back and brought it home - it would freeze up on me intermittently so I checked the voltage and the 5v wire was running at 4.6 or something real low - I was like great - i will put in a new power supply and be all set - well that worked for a while and then it started freezing AGAIN a few weeks later :(

I had installed a used switching power supply just to run the +5 into the machine - the rest of the cab is using the original power supply.

So I switched out the 5+ supply with a brand new one straight out of the box and it still froze as soon as I hit 1 player start.

I am totally bumming and at this point I am thinking I will just rewire it with a 60-in-1 jamma PCB - even though I really liked having my childhood favorite dedicated game - everytime I get a good high score I have to power cycle it and I lose it...

If anyone has any ideas on what might be causing the board to freeze (all startup test say Ok) then maybe I can give it one more try before I give up and 60-in-1 it (which I really don't want to do because I already have a 60-in-1 cocktail arkanoid conversion)...

I had freezing issues once, and found that pulling and reseating the ROMs cleared it up. Galaga chips are cheap and notorious for developing tarnish that can cause problems, so reseating (and worse case, cleaning) the ROMs usually solves the issue

Did you call the place and contacted the people that gave it to you? Maybe it is best that you do that. They could probably help you out with that!
