Hi Everyone,

I have a Galaga cab that I'd like to convert into another game. The original PCB and Monitor both died. I still have the Joystick / Buttons ready to connect to another board.

Here are my questions that need your opinions:

1. I really don't want to change out the joystick and buttons. I don't want to cut the CPO overlay. Which games could I install that just use a side to side joystick? I will not be able to go up and down.

2. Should I get a JAMMA Harness?

3. Can I use an LCD monitor?

Thanks

Joe

Oh no, the triple combo of KLOV hateness! Prepare yourself, OP... :D

On a serious note: In my opinion, fix it as a Galaga. You could always JAMMA it though and buy a spare rough control panel for this purpose, and switch between Galaga and another game or even a multi-board. LCDs are super lame, fix the monitor or have somebody fix and bulletproof it. You can ship out the chassis and back. :)

Yes.

Please fix it as a Galaga.

Or sell it to someone that will.

Find a late 80s or 90s jamma game to bastardize.

Sheesh I'm seeing more and more classics disappearing as they get bastardized into either a multi game or some other fucked up shit................

This is a forum for preserving to original, please respect the classics!!

Yeah, this is going to go against the grain but...

There are ways to make this game playable and enjoyable by you that wont "destroy" its classic appearance or configuration. DO NOT toss any of the factory parts. The monitor is most likely easy to repair but the boards can be a total bitch. When/if you sell the game you can sell the parts with it.

Get a Galaga --> JAMMA adapter, a switching power supply with adapter (so you dont have to hack up the original harness), a control panel that supports an 8 way stick and 3 buttons (trackball too if you want to go that far) and a multi board (I like the Arcade SD in this case). LCD can be tricky as you need to figure out how to mount one or just get the CRT fixed and use it (thats what I would do).

Not only will you have Galaga but many other classic games you can play and since you didnt hack the game up you have not hurt its value.

Or just sell it as is and find another cabinet to put all of the above in. :)

Guys, as I said I know this goes against the grain but at least doing the above will keep the cab "as factory" and is easy to return to it.
