Galaga cabaret new laminate and paint + overlay issue.

Finally got my Galaga cabaret fully laminated and painted. If anyone has some of those plastic Midway coin accepters I will gladly buy them from you.

The second pic is of my new control panel overlay from Two Bits. I bought this NEW from another user here and it looked great when I first installed it. This has been on the panel for about 3 months and you can see how much it is already cracking. It is also starting to do this on the bottom edge. I was kinda disappointed but what can you do? I think it has to do with how thick the overlay is and how sharp that angle is. Does anyone produce a thinner overlay that might not crack so easy?

I just installed my Galaga cabaret overlay from Two Bits on mine today. Sure hope it does not crack like yours!

Did you use a blow dryer to heat it to bend over the curves? I did.

Two Bits is the only place I know that carries these. I searched a few times before placing my order too.

The cabinet looks great. I just started working on my pacman caberet. Can you tell me where you found the laminate?

Thanks

I bought it from a guy off eBay, it is Wilsonart - Montana Walnut. I was able to do the entire cab with one 4x8 sheet. His eBay name is "savinmoneytwo" you have to contact him and ask him to order it for you.

No, I didn't blow dry it but it went on very easy and showed no signs of cracking when applied. If I ever decide to do it again I will try that. After looking around, pretty much every Galaga cabaret I have seen is cracking in this area. Even ones with original overlays.

for the new cpo also try clamping it down to the panel for a couple days before installing it to the panel for it to form the actual shape and it may reduce the chances of it cracking.

Pretty sure I've read to do that hear but not 100% sure if that will stop this. I expect mine will do this too then, the original did of course as you state.

It seems the answer is very elusive. One day I'm gonna have to get all Mythbusters on this shit.

Damn Brandon did that beautiful cab make it into the house? I think the PO desrves the same treatment, as it turned out awesome! That sucks about the overlay.?! Keep up the good work bro........

Yeah, the Galaga is inside! Unfortunately, the PO did not. :(

Just looked today and mine did this too! I'm so pissed! Not even been on the CP for 6 weeks now.

This Two Bits CPO is garbage!

My cp I bought from twobits did the same thing after about a month. It's a load of crap really. Well, it's not a huge deal to me as it still looks good but if somebody else reproduced this overlay using a good quality setup I'd re-buy this in a second.

Got mine from two bits. Cracked, but lasted 4 months before cracking. I would kinda wish it was not so thick. I feel if it was made on a thinner material it would not crack.

Geez!

What's up with these garbage Two Bit CPOs? We can't be the first people to have experienced this. For the cabarets, Two Bits is the only game in town for them.

Thanks for the comments on the laminate. It is Wilsonart Montana Walnut, it can be ordered from any cabinet or laminate dealer that carries the Wilsonart brand.

As far as the Two Bits overlays go, I think the issue is the thickness. If it wasn't so thick I think it would be fine. To their defense, I am pretty sure the original was fairly thick as well. My original CPO was cracked all to hell as well when I got it.

I'm about to order one for a Galaga cabaret resto I'm doing. It's sad that this happens to them but I have no choice because there the only ones who carry them. My cpo is in poor shape other wise I'd leave it on. Too bad Phoenixarcade or Thisoldgame couldn't do a run on them and the glass bezels as well.

It may be the thickness, but that's my point, we can't be the only people this has happened to. Time for Two Bits to make a Rev 2 design and less thick.

My original was only cracked up on the 90 bend, where this one is cracking now, I could have kept it actually in the end...
