Hey all I recently bought a "mini" Galaga and not trying to get it working. The guy bought it at an auction and didnt know anything about games that time. Anyways the board looks as if it has sat out in the rain pretty good, (not sure if it can even be fixed) I wanted to know if I need a good board to complete the whole game circuit? I plug it in and the fan comes on and that is it no monitor glow or lights (marquee or coin door) All wiring seems to be in good order other then the coin door as always, and all the fuses that I can see are good as well, so huh where do i start? I can try a good board my buddy has one to test it. I'm sure I need a new board. options???

BTW: the glass and monitor is perfect, and the cab is in great shape just needs new wood grain.....nice cab, once i get my laptop back working I'll post pix.

Hey man, Ummmmmmm I need to stop now for sure. LOL I had to get this come on a cabaret Galaga in this good of condition, why not. Anyways I have tried to get a hold of Dave for a few weeks now and nothing, I hope all is well. I might have to wait till I get up north to find a new fix it guy or a closer place if I cant get in touch with him. But now I have a a few games that are in need of fixin. Hope your doing well.

Never owned a galaga but in all the games I've ever owned I've never seen one where the monitor, marquee light, coin lights ect. didn't power on because the board was not in place. Break out you meter and start checking voltages. It's possible the light or starter is dead in the marquee. The bulbs in the coin door may be burned out. This is pretty common. Of course the monitor may also be dead. But you need to grab the meter and poke around in there to see if the components, monitor, marquee, coin lights are getting voltage at all.

Yes, the only thing that works is the fan comes on. I will be able to test it at socalarcades house tomorrow, so we shall see. The board is a two board set that looks as if it was left in the rain all jacked up, and it also has a power connector plug that does go in to one side of the board so I am not sure.

well if the fan comes on then you probably have your 110-120v ac. This usually means your marquee light and monitor will come on if they are in working order. Usually the coin door lights are wired off the iso if the wiring is original so if the wiring is good and the bulbs are also good they would probably be working. Although in some cases the coin door lights may not come directly off the iso so that one could be up in the air but every cab i can remember the monitor and marquee light ran directly from the iso. Only other basic thing to check is fuses.

3K6+ posts and you don't know the basiscs? Have you checked fuses? Voltages? Is the monitor working? Does the monitor have power?

Ummm yes I checked all fuses and then today went to socalarcades house for some trading and showing....Big thanks to you bud for all your help and that way cool tell all multimeter. The onluy thing is of course I need a new fully working board and to figure out why oh why no sound....

Peale: BTW the post count doesnt mean I know all, small or big about all the basics or even have all the tools to check or fix any and everything. Big thanks to friends....

Galaga Mini Problems

You mentioned there is no glow in the monitor. That means you likely have a dead monitor too. At the very least you should see some glow in the neck of the monitor after the game has been powered on for a minute or so. That's the "heater" element. Without it glowing, you won't get a picture at all. For starters, check to make sure you are getting 120 volts AC on the power cord entering the monitor. Let us know what you find.

Let me know if you want to sell off the dead board. Depending on how far gone it is I might be able to harvest some parts off it for an incomplete one I have here.

Thanks Mark, we finally got it going everything but the sound and I'll have to look into it after I move. The old board I gave to my buddy that helped me he was going to look into it for poss harvest. Thanks again
