Galaga Cabaret - Fire Button issue *SOLVED

double checking: should I be seeing any kind of voltage reading at the switch? I'm getting 5v at various places on the rapid fire board, but nothing at the switch. Sound correct?

This really isn't that hard.

You're all over the map here.

KISS it..... Keep It Simple Stupid!

Take two wires and come off the PCB edge/harness connector. Pin out show M (parts side) is the fire button. The other will go to A or Z for GND. Fire the game up and one you have a game started touch those wires together. If the game fires then it's not a PCB issue. Once you have verified it's not a PCB issue then you know it's just a wiring problem.

Just use your DMM and test GND continuing on your wires all the way back to your fire button. Something is breaking the connection
I was able to ground the fire leaf to the joystick ground and it works. So do we think adding a grounding wire on the CP is an acceptable fix or is that an amateur fix?

I call this "process of elimination" 😀

Solved! The connector to the Rapid Fire board needed to be repinned.

I was getting continuity from the fire button to the connector for the Rapid Fire board, but not between the connector and the solder side on pin 5. A closer look at the connector showed that pin was raised pretty far up in the housing, not making connection. In the photo attached, you can see straight through to the other side of the housing in pin 5

Appreciate everyone's help
