The game plays but is missing the text for scores, extra life ships and the tractor beam.

Anybody got any ideas of where I should start? Is the problem on the video board?

Thanks

Renew kits are back in stock again. I put 25 more up on the site.

It appears that in 95 the board was sent to Eldorado and got new sockets, resistor packs and chips were cleaned.

I just resocketed all of the chips and is still having the same issue. I also noticed that enemy explosions are not right. It just shows broken lines in a square where they were.

I cleaned the pins on every socketed chip first video side that fixed the enemy explosions. Next the game side it was the same but then the text appeared and stayed. I swicthed it to test and saw the garbled screen and then the RAM / ROM ok. Played a game put text disappeared in middle of second stage. After I died I switchedit to test again and the text was back but dissappeared again.

Check the voltage on the +5 at the chips, these boards like the voltage to be a bit high something like about 5.15vdc.

actually ...5.15vdc is what it ALWAYS should Be UNDER LOAD no matter what.. high would be 5.21vdc.. and i've seen it... get yourself a Fiberglass contact Brush from Radio Shack or any major component supplier...and polish the legs on your chips then put them back in..usually that solves alot...ALSO check ALL EDGE CONNECTORS on all boards and use the brush on the board contacts or flux any worn edge contacts and resolder them and polish them and try again...also check for WEAK Grounds..if need be add extra ground wires to the harness and Keep the Work CLEAN AND NEAT.

if that still doesn't solve it..it's prolly chip issues.

thats my 2 cents :)

good Luck.

END OF LINE.

Daniel.

Voltage at the chips was 5.34 I turned it down to 5.15 but no change.

Also swapped 1st and 2nd Z80s for shits and giggles. 3rd one is not in a socket

Does any one know which z80 controls the text and which ROMs have it? Once I find socket ill put it on the third one.

Its fixed for now. I guess I didn't do a good job on the small socketed chips on the video side.

I pulled them cleaned em and bam I had text. I played a few games with my highscore being 170k.

Well it lasted a week then messed up and haven't touched it yet.

It now has horizontal lines on the entire game image.

Horizontal lines will be something in the character ROMs, the 02xx chip next to them, or their sockets on the video board.
