I put a new bezel on my galaga today, and when I went to turn it on nothing happened. I noticed that the first fuse off of the power cord had blown. The machine was working just fine about a week ago.

Over lunch I picked up some new fuses (3A 250v), and when I plugged the machine in, the new fuse blew again within 2 seconds. I noticed that a strage repeating sound came from the speakers (bum-bum-bum) before it blew.

I tried unplugging the monitor from the ISO xformer, and putting in a new fuse, and it didn't blow. I could hear the speaker buzz, and the LED on the switcher lit up.

The fuse that's blowing is right off the AC cord before it goes to the line filter. The power section on this machine is brand new. The monitor is a WG 4600, which had a cap kit about a month ago, and was working fine since then.

What should I check on the monitor? What types of things would cause this to happen? I don't have my voltmeter with me at the moment, but I can bring it in tomorrow.

Check the 4 diodes in the bridge on the monitor and check that the HOT isn't shorted... while you're at it, unplug the degaussing coil and check that as well.

As far as the Galaga boards... there was probably a strong breeze in the room (or a mouse farted) and the legs fell off the custom chips, the RAM fried, and all sockets on the board instantly became sloppy.... I HATE Galaga boards.

First step would be fixing the monitor though...

Thanks. I think the board is OK, though I do know that they can flake easily.

I'll take the monitor out over the weekend. Hopefully it's something obvious. I just replaced this monitor, so I'm hoping it's not anything major.
