I scored a Galaga and a Commando for $50 last night! Both games are in decent cosmetic shape, considering that they apparently sat in a garage for years in a non-working state. This is probably the best deal I have come across ever because it was 3 miles from my house and most of the time when a deal like this sounds to good to be true it is (like the game I bought that was locked up with no keys and full of cat crap). Today, I worked on both games, replaced fuses, reattached a new power wire, cleaned the dust and dirt off them and after a few tries I got them powered up. The monitors, wiring harnesses and overall condition is looking good so far. Unfortunately, both games have board issues but since I got them for $25 each I cant complain.
Galaga boots to some kind of self test(it looks like alien language) but I was happy to see something on that monitor. I am stoked to get this project going because I always wanted this game but never was willing to fork over the money that they usually go for.
The Commando cabinet looks great but the PCB is no good. I had another in my garage and I thought I could just pop it in but I discovered that my other PCB is a clone, with a different pin-out so I will be looking for an original for this one.
The funny thing about this purchase was that I knew I had been to the same street to pick up a game before and it turns out that I had bought a game from someone two houses down a few years back. I asked the guy if someone on the street was an operator or if he knew the guy two houses down, but it was just random and he didn't even know the other guy.
I had to post this find since it qualifies as the best deal I have ever found, topping my $45 Mr. Do! My uncle is a general contractor and gave me a heads up and now I owe him a case of beer so I guess the real price was $50 + a case of beer!
Pics below, and updates on the restore to follow, but it's not like they need much work!
