Galaga `88

I never said I wanted cutie...lol

I just never understood the caricatures that pop up between stages and have some weird sounds...

I love the triple ship though...that was always fun.

I like Galaga 88, its cut scenes, music, are a delight. It was one of the games at the entrance to the arcade at Miami International mall. They do seem hard to find now, but not 1500$ hard.

Personally I don't consider Galaga '88 cutesy. It does have better graphics and sound since it runs on newer hardware (Namco System 1). If you want cutesy then look at Cosmo Gang the Video. It's definitely a cutesy Galaga game with challenging stages based upon the Cosmo Gang electromechanical light gun game. Also it supports two player simultaneous play.

Cosmo Gang the Video is from 1991 and runs on Namco System 2 hardware. I'm not sure how common it is. I'm guessing not so common as I've only played it on an actual cabinet at California Extreme and even that wasn't in its original cabinet. Fun game though.

Can you confirm that Cosmo Gang uses a 2-way joystick and one button? It looks like it to me from the video. I'd like to add this game to my Space Shooter Multi.

Yes Cosmo Gang the Video uses a 2-way joystick and one button. Gaplus is the only game in the series which uses a 4-way joystick.

Now that I think about it, Gaplus uses an 8-way joystick since you can move diagonally.

keep an eye out. you should be able to get one eventually for under $500.

i think i picked up my entire machine for $250 (converted Dragon Spirit) about five or six years ago, maybe a bit longer. awesome game and when it came time to decide between keeping an original Galaga and this, the '88 won out.

Thats funny people say its cutesy.. I never thought of that

I can say it seems to resonate with the ladies, the last show I was at there was a female playing the machine every time I walked by it.

It's just my impression...im not the final authority by any means......lol

I'm a Galaga but and love all things Galaga. The original game is where my heart is.....

Being too young to have played Galaga when it first debuted, I have no allegiance to any specific title, but I find myself gravitating towards Galaga '88 more than the others on my MAME cab. Maybe I like the cutesy, I dunno? :D

That little bastard's name is "Cosmo", isn't it?

Don Cosmo is the final boss in Cosmo Gang the Video. The enemies that briefly appear at the start of stages in Galaga '88 are either the mini-boss that appears after stage 10 or the boss you'll face if you reach the end of the game at stage 29 depending on what dimension you're in.
