Galaga `88 PCB...

Unobtanium? I've found exactly ONE for sale in the last few days... for a cool $1,500 from Japan.

I'm guessing a AprIcade might be in my future for such a venture?

since when did this game become:

1. ultra-rare
2. ultra-desirable

i think it's a good game, but wow i'm kinda shocked that these are going for more than a Major Havoc boardset

When I have seen these pcbs for sale, $250-300 seemed to be the going rate. It has been about 6 months since I saw the last one offered up here, so who knows with the way shooter prices have been skyrocketing.

Japanese sellers are on another planet when it comes to PCB prices. They're worse than the European sellers on feebay.

As far as Galaga 88 goes, I think they're popular for converting to Splatterhouse.

You just have to keep you eyes open for one 9-28-17 one just sold on ebay.

I love the Galaga series but I could never get used to this game or the cartoonist sounds.

Good luck with your search.

Galaga '88 is a better sequel than Gaplus (a.k.a. Galaga 3) since it plays very much like the original Galaga. If you want a "cartoony" game then that's Cosmo Gang the Video which is basically 5th in the Galaxian/Galaga series.

The triple ship is a hoot for sure, and yeah, think '88 might be the best in the series. Galpus makes me want to punch a baby.

Lol!
I've never seen or played Galpus. I only bought g88 because it was a cheap($150) galaga game & it was local. My wife & I really dig it.

$150 for Galaga '88 - that's a great deal for a great game. If you want to see Gaplus then look on YouTube. Personally I consider Gaplus to be the weakest of the series. It's the most different of the bunch, the challenging stage is kinda dumb and it's hard just for the sake of being hard.

I'll admit to being the odd man out and preferring Gaplus to Galaga '88, but that's a screaming deal. Nice find!

The triple ship is pretty cool. I just can't get past how they went cutesy with the game; it makes it difficult for me to really take the gameplay seriously enough to get into it.

And yet Gaplus, especially the challenging stage is my favorite feature of the game.

I know what you mean by cutesy. Maybe that's why my wife likes it. She never liked Tempest, Stargate or Gravitar. She needed the cutesy!!

Yeah, that was 5 or 6 years ago. Occasionally now you can still find a good deal!

Personally I don't consider Galaga '88 cutesy. It does have better graphics and sound since it runs on newer hardware (Namco System 1). If you want cutesy then look at Cosmo Gang the Video. It's definitely a cutesy Galaga game with challenging stages based upon the Cosmo Gang electromechanical light gun game. Also it supports two player simultaneous play.

Cosmo Gang the Video is from 1991 and runs on Namco System 2 hardware. I'm not sure how common it is. I'm guessing not so common as I've only played it on an actual cabinet at California Extreme and even that wasn't in its original cabinet. Fun game though.

Let me guess... Samurai07 on eBay? Never buy anything from that scumbag. He is a price speculator that has all of his listings at absurd prices. Like STV or ArcadeTower. Buys PCBs in Japan at low prices and immediately tries to flip for a profit. Don't support these scumbags.
