well, I have never had a yoke problem before so I am not sure what the correct thing is to do...

I have a g07 monitor with no vertical deflection. Metered the yoke and and it as nothing. So I was looking to see if a wire was broken, and I found 2 of the wires in the winding were broken. I was able to solder them back together and the yoke meters at 55 ohms and works fine(perfect picture).

So my question is, is this an acceptable repair? or should I replace the yoke? I am sure I have a spare yoke around. Just don't want the hassle of swapping it.

I actually soldered the 2 broken wires together(all 4 pieces are now 1) as it was a pain to try to solder them individually.

I think it would be, you may get some odd magnetic deflection issues, but I think it would be very minimal. Just make sure you coat the exposed wire with something, enamel paint, or maybe shrink wrap so it doesn't short out.

Yeah- if you had 2 broken wires and you soldered them all together, then you effectively shorted out one or more turns of the coil. If they're right next to each other, then they're probably consecutive turns and only one turn was 'removed' from the coil.

You probably won't notice anything. And it DOES sound like a lot less hassle than replacing that yoke.

If the picture looks good, it's fine.

Look at a crosshatch pattern, it'll show any faults. A short in the yoke will cause a noticeable "kink" in the picture.

But, if you've got an acceptable picture, then call it fixed.

thanks for the input guys..

I will coat the wires as suggested.

The picture looked perfect, but I did not have a grid pattern. I will check that..

I did not think about it shorting out 1 or more turns in the coil.. That would make sense.

I have a yoke repair thread here somewhere. I used enamel nail polish to coat the wires after I soldered them...
