This is my first go at this. Short write up in case anyone might find useful.

I've had this monitor for years:

It came to me with a Missile Command upright. Non working. Really bad screen burn from a number of different games. And Missile Command isn't a game that tolerates screen burn. The later levels are bright pastel backgrounds and the burn shows up terribly. I ended up sticking a Hanty in the MC, and sticking this G07 in a Defender - the black background of Defender is much kinder.

Anyway .... I've always wanted to stick a fresh tube in, and lucked out finding an old telly with a compatible tube. Yoke on the new tube was way off though, so this was going to need both tube and yoke swap ....

Here's the yoke and convergence rings:

Rings off. These are now surplus because they are matched to the burned tube:

Yoke off. This isn't surplus as it needs to go on the new tube:

Metal cage that surrounds tube. Also houses the degauss wiring:

Yoke and convergence rings removed. Yoke for the bin, rings kept as these are matched to this tube:

Donor tube removed. After this pic taken I also stripped out the degauss and grounding as I am using the ones from the old G07 tube:

Time to hit reverse and rebuild. Empty G07 frame:

Bingo.

Convergence was quite a way out when I first turned it on. I'd fitted the rings too far up the tube neck. Took about 5 minutes to sort that out.

This is now the best monitor I've got. The tube gives a superb picture. Geometry slightly out, but should be able to solve by gently and gradually moving the yoke either towards or away from the tube. Might do that later.

nice detailed write up. I am always on the hunt for tubes a can drop right in now without messing with the yokes.

Fantastic write-up, the pics make it 100X more valuable.

This should be stickied by the mods.

Thanks for this.. As I've been using the original rings instead of the donor ones.. Have had good luck, but never thought about the rings matching the donor tube.. For some reason I thought you had to move both yoke and rings when swapping.. Guess I'll try it out :)

I always use

I always use the rings on the new tube works better, If I could just master the convergence strips.
