Buddy of mine has a Ms. Pac. It went black a few days ago. I check it out and the game is playing blind... you get the monitor "static" when first firing up, but then it starts to "tink"...

"tink...tink...tink...tink...tink..."

Consistent...

What am I looking at here likely? Just a cap kit? Cap kit + fly? What say you?

I have a 4900 in a Moon Patrol that just started doing the same thing yesterday. A cap kit was done a little over a year ago. I wonder if the flyback is going. The picture goes in and out while making that tink noise.

I would never do a cap kit without doing a flyback too on a G07. Just buy the $40 kit because the width coil is almost certainly toast too.

You wouldn't normally hear a G07 or 4900 do the ticking sound because they don't have an SMPS on them.

With that being said, if you haven't capped them or checked them for cold solder (especially the 4900), then do so. And definitely replace the flyback on the G07 if it's original...

I've got G07 complete cap kits, including the filter cap, for $11. The kit includes all capacitors, in a quality brand name (Nichicon, Panasonic), in the hi-temp variety. It also includes R908, which often goes open.

I've had a few G-07's.....not exactly ticking....I'd call it more of a chirp (but I could see where someone might call it a tick). It was going into high voltage shutdown, then kicking itself back on, the shutdown, repeat...over and over. I say start with a cap kit, but it could be more.
