G07 "ticking" sound, and red circle/blob in center screen

Have a G07 in my Galaga that has worked fine up until yesterday. There's a concentrated red blob in center of screen (that also stays there for 20 seconds after power down), that sort of flashes out to the side. There is a noticeable ticking sound in the monitor chassis, that coincides with the beat in which the red blob seems to flash.

Any obvious thoughts on this? Thinking of just getting another G07, this one has some Pacman burn in anyways.

does the ticking go away when your red spot goes away?

Sounds like it's going in and out of shutdown trying to power up! Are the caps old? I'd they are I would put a cap kit in it!

The ticking is could be a cracked flyback. Open the back of the game and look for arcing near the flyback. Helps to do it in a dark room so it's easier to spot.

The red "blob" in the middle of the screen doesn't concern me. I've seen old tv's do that as well as certain arcade monitors.

The ticking sounds like the flyback is arcing or about to blow up. Obviously some pictures of the chassis and a little more info would be nice.

Thanks guys. The ticking is near the flyback, so that makes sense, I also got a fair bit of a shock touching transistor that is mounted on the metal plate near it, so am suspecting electricity grounding out from the flyback then.

Going to pull the monitor, discharge it, clean it, and then see what's involved with getting a replacement flyback.

if you need parts i have everything in stock at my site and better quality flybacks.

I'd cap it, put a new hot, and new flyback. After that you'll probably be fine.

If it weren't for the Pacman burn in, but probably easier now to fix compared to finding a good replacement. So there is a first for everything, I have never done flyback or caps on a monitor. Was my first time discharging a monitor today too. Was kinda disappointing, no real sound or anything. Hosed the monitor down after too

G07's should make a sound so that thing is arching bad. Time to be replaced. Here's my tip, do the caps first to get a feel for soldering (c202 I think is marked wrong on the solder side). Then do the flyback. Watch a few videos it really isn't bad. Its very gratifying to fix a monitor yourself.

I can't tell for sure from the picture but it looks like your width coil has the top busted off of it as well. If so, replace that when you do all of the work.

I have 2 rebuilt chassis' I'm going to list later on tonight (for sale), but I need to get good pictures of them before I start the thread. (if you are even interested in buying a rebuilt one).

Hard to ship monitors to Canada? Caps look normal to me, but will inspect further. So flyback is obvious, I may do the caps too. Just prior to issue, all the colours and video were 100% good at least

It would just be the chassis that ships.

Do the cap kit while you have it out. Assuming the caps have never been changed that is. Show us a picture after you remove the chassis from the tube.

i would agree never pull a G07 and do only a flyback or just a cap kit. do both you will usually regret soon down the road only doing one. i have all the best caps in my cap kits and i stock all the other parts if you need anything. (make sure to check the width coil because so many are brittle and cracked).

C302 is marked wrong on the solder side.

Got the new flyback yesterday (thank you!!), but may now have a spare G07 flyback. Swapped it in, same symptom. I don't believe capacitors are an issue.

Finding reference to the HOT also can cause a clicking sound. The sound is in the area where the flyback, width coil, and HOT transformer.

If the HOT is this damn think on the side like in this pic below, then that could be what is making the noise and is what gave me a real good shock when I had touched it last time. To answer Buffet, the ground wire to chassis and from dag is all connected/secure. Should be good ground there.

yes the HOT is the 2sd870 on the side there.

what do you have the white wire off the flyback connected to? it doesn't look like its connected to the focus block.
