monitor is arcing under anode cap when powered on. I see that the paint around the cap is cracking thus the issue. Can this be fixed? I heard others have tried rubbing alcohol or de-electric grease with not too much success. Is their something on the chassis that needs attention?

I posted a vid of mine doing the same thing a while back...

I can see if I can find it...

Mine was dirty.. and the grime itself was conductive and making it short out...

I discharged the monitor... and then clean around the anode hole very good.. and I used alcohol to wipe it off and let it evaporate..

seems I have seen those cracks you spoke of.. and not so sure thats the prob... clean it good first...

the area around the anode is a non conductive "dead zone".. so its not supposed to be conductive...

Here is my vid of mine doing it....

cleaned it up and now the monitor anode cap is good- no sparks on top of the monitor. However the crt display is barely visible. I turned up the brightness and I barely saw light on the tube. I now hear a slight zzzzzzzzz sound near the transistor area next to the flyback. Damn this is annoying ! The flyback is original, chasis has been recapped and the hot is new.

well.. I'm not expert... but I've seen many answer a dim picture can be a flyback...

can't hurt to try it?

or re title this thread and post new.... I've seen lots of similar...

cool video tho huh? yours like that?

Well,m you should really replace the flyback when recapping if the flyback has a label with a green stripe on it.

But as for your "zzzzzzz" noise, you need to pull the little gray rubber grommets back on the wires on the back of the focus pot. Most likely, one of the wires is either broken, loose, or barely hanging on. Fix it, make sure the grommets are on fully, and your buzzing will most likely go away.

And you could check to make sure the wires attached to your new HOT aren't too far back on the legs. If the get too close to the side wall, you may get some arcing that sounds like a buzz...

I will put a new flyback in it this week once i get time.Luckily I do have a new one on hand- oh yeah. I will have to check the transistor legs too. thanks for the info guys

Installed a new flyback in it last night and it powered on. Then I moved the unit a few feet and it blew out the small 901 fuse on the pcb as 2 wires had touched somewhere on the pcb. Fixed that and installed another fuse and now it still wont power on. Damn I really just was ready to throw this unit on cement then I decided to take a break- hence I still need my kortek chasis fixed too which wont power on as well. UUUUURGHHHHHHHH back to the drawing board I guess.
