This is the first time I've reworked a G07. Of course I'm aware of the C303 (whatever it was) being improperly marked but there comes a question of replacing the HOT and regulator. What a shitty ass design. I just reworked a K4900 last night and what a piece of cake - two screws - pull - paste insulator - apply and insert new one - put screws back in.
So is there any helpful techniques on how to replace the HOT and regulator on a G07? The HOT appears to be the easier of the two but the regulator - geez louise is that tight quartered and trying to de-solder without burning wires and resolder is even worse.

Then there's the (fold over) mod where you remove a cap, insert new cap and tie in the positive leg of (forget location) to X305. Which friggin side is positive? It's not marked on the board from what I can see?

Lastly - the board is horribly dirty with crusties. Best way to clean it?

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

I am working on one tonight... Best way to clean it... you will like this:

- make sure its been out of circuit for a while
- spray it with Simple Green
- rinse it off
- let it dry for a really, really, really long time...

Someone locally does this with his monitors and I started to (did the same with 2 entire 4900 monitors). THey look minty :)

When doing the HOT and Regulator, the first thing to do is write down which color wires go on which legs. Then, set the chassis so that the one you're replacing is facing AWAY from you. This makes it fairly easy to see the backside and get a soldering iron tip in there to heat the pins while gently pulling the wires off. The wires are wrapped around, so just pull them straight back on the pins. Then when the new HOT or VR is installed (with it's insulator), you can add a touch of solder to the pins and then slide the wires back on fairly easily.

As for the curl mod, if you actually have the cap kit, it will tell you that the positive leg of the 10uF 50v cap goes to the hole connected to the collector of the transistor - or to make it simpler - to the hole closest to the edge of the board....

Thanks Mod - you always give clear and concise info.

Shillmover thanks for the simple green info too.
