I had a dead g07 so I tried to do a recap (all except the 2 bipolar and the huge one) I didn't replace flyback nor any transistor yet because I don't have spare ones. anyway I installed it in the game; when I turn it on I can hear the whistle of the high voltage but it won't stay on, the sound just fades away quickly. then when I switch it off I can hear it again for a sec...clues?

I've been switching on/off several times and adjusting B+ and has been working ok for a while then afte 30 mins playing the screen suddenly started doing waves so I switched it off immediately, slightly turned the B+ pot CCW and now seems to work again.

what is your b+ reading? did you reflow the solder joints on the power section and any other suspect solder joints?

no I didn't reflow any solder other than the caps I replaced, is it a common failure on g07? and where do I read the B+? what it did is some sudden waves on the screen, image almost disappeared by the time I switched it off. now it's working fine though.

To measure your B+ put the black lead of your meter to frame(ground), and red lead to far terminal(white wire?) on the large white resistor on the left. Adjust so you have 120vdc.

yesterday the G07 in my q*bert died again: after playing 1 hour the image became suddenly distorted and then black. at restart I can see a quick flash in the corners but it won't turn on...should I just try to adjust the b+ (it is already 120 vdc) or look for some other fault?

Perhaps the old flyback decided to die from the strain of the new caps....

turning the B+ ccw to the limit gives me 126 vdc and I can see a perfect picture.
The voltage is rising by itself for some reason and I don't think the pot is bad, must be something else.

Your flyback is failing as Mod has suggested above, replace the fly

Shhhhhhhhhhhh....I want to watch the fireworks.

And I'm just wondering WHY the fly wasn't replaced along with the caps. Nearly every guide on the G07 on this site states this advice:

"If your G07 flyback is original - REPLACE THE FLYBACK."

I guess the advice is useless if you don't do any reading on the monitor beforehand.

because I am in italy...at the local grocer I could find the caps but not a g07 flyback..!

I am ordering some from usa, twisted quarter has also other parts I need.

thanks for the help guys!

ps. so when the flyback is dying the b+ readings will be higher than usual??

the fly will usually fluctuate back and forth before dying.

flyback replaced with a brand new one, same problem as before, the least b+ I get is 127 so it has to be another component failing, maybe one of those round power transistors? maybe the pot itself? no idea
